Why? Really, Tell me, why?
First of all, let's go over the super duper features of being in a full squad of 6 members.
- POINTS! Points are fun! They give you ranks and weapons. In case you haven't realized, when you put down an order such as attacking a flag, every time your squad does things such as kill an enemy around that order, you get a BONUS! And if you're a squad member, you get points for doing those things.
- Your choice of
] A portable spawning pod beacon
] A drone that lets you see enemies through walls
] A gun drone
] Some other thing that nobody uses, but it's awesome anyway.
- Power in numbers. It's better to work in a team of 6 than as a lone wolf on the battlefield. It's a very simple concept that people for some reason don't appreciate in this game. If you have a successful squad on a team, you can bet that most of the time they'll be on the top of the scoreboard simply because you do very well in a squad.
WHY IS IT, however, that NOBODY JOINS SQUADS?
I mean, In Battlefield 2 this isn't a problem at all, most of the time there's at least some form of active squad on, especially if it's a server that requires squads/is specially made for squad play such as Full Contact War.
I went to a Full Contact War server in BF2142 of 50 players and there were 10 fucking people in a squad on my team.
Here's to my next point. I like to be squadleader. It's pretty good stuff. I get all the benefits that I said before in my post, and it's just really fun to command a squad and get objectives done together.
Now, my experience with squadwork is that you need microphones to succeed. NEED. The Q com menu can do a very basic job, but you won't get anywhere NEAR the communication that you would otherwise have with a squad that talks through a microphone. And this leads me to one of my biggest annoyances in BF2 and 2142.
GET A MICROPHONE. All of you that will read this thread should have a microphone. PLEASE BUY ONE. They're cheap and made by sweatshop workers in Singapore.

Jesus, one of them is 2.89$
When I get into a squad, I try to get people talking. You've gotta break the ice, or the whole squad will do jack shit the entire round and play lone wolf. I ask a simple question:
"So, anyone here have a mic?"
This does several things.
1.) Tells me if my squad members have micrpohones
2.) Allows the squad members in the squad to realize that their fellow members have microphones, and that they should communicate together.
I may get one of 2 responses.
-One or more squad member will proceed to say something over the microphone, and we will become a squad of sheer death and destruction killing every enemy on the battlefield, and coming out on top of the entire team
-Total radio silence. Nothing will happen. The squad will fuck around, not spawn on me, and I will go and make a whiny post on an internet forum.
Seriously, get a microphone. They let you work as a team and get things accomplished that you wouldn't do alone. You will communicate with your fellow squad members and rape the enemy team. There are just too many good reasons for joining a squad. And if you don't have a microphone, kill yourself.
Also, plase spawn on your actual squadleader. It's like a domino effect. Imagine that I, the squadleader, am doing something. Anything. I'm going towards a flag. One guy spawns on me. I'll talk to him and we'll communicate and alert eachother of enemies and stuff. The other squad members will realize that these 2 guys are talking and working together, and most likely they'll also spawn on me since they realize that the squad is working together. Before you know it, I've got 5 guys following me and killing shit. Hell yeah. So please, next time you play, be that one guy that spawns first.
My next rant: Stop being a squad of 1. Here's what I see many times when I open the squad menu
6/6
4/6
2/6
1/6
1/6
3/6
1/6
STOP BEING SQUADS OF 1. You are hurting the team, as well as the other squads. You could be filling up the squads that have 2 or 3 members, instead you're being a fucking asshole and sitting there all alone.
And that's the end of my rant. I'm not sure what the point I was getting at was, I guess this is just a basic collection of gripes I have with the community. A call to teamwork or something.
Anyway, the moral of the story is:
Stop being an uncoordinated fuck, buy a microphone, and contribute to your team instead of being a worthless shitleech. And stop being a penny pinching bastard and buy a 2 dollar microphone.
Fin.
