I am currently learning how to use Sony Vegas Premier version 8.0.

I have been researching other topics on rendering, but I'm
still experiencing an unacceptable loss of quality, even when
I render to best quality uncompressed.

Settings as recommended that have been used:

Frap fps = 30
render fps = 30 (or close to it)
Pixel aspect ratio = 1.00  (or close to it)

The resulting uncompressed avi file appears slightly diffused and granulated.

What is the best template and settings to use to render
the best quality uncompressed avi???

At this point, Roxio's rendering and compression routine
is outperforming Sony Vegas 8.0's best uncompressed results.
I know this cant be right.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes... right now that looks like the best format vegas can do.
But... not acceptable...  needs to be uncompressed or avi for divx conversion.
When uploading to youtube, they specifically recommend NOT using wmv.

All these neat new features in Vegas aint worth a damb if WMV is the only format it will render in half way decently.
My trial version expires in 8 days... I need help with this or I just wont buy it.

Surely its something i'm doing wrong.

Whats wrong with exporting to WMV? You can convert that to DivX with DivX converter or Dr.DivX.

Uncompressed AVI is going to leave to a HUGE movie file. My Fraps files, for 30seconds, are up in the 600Mb range...

I just rendered a Fraps file to avi several times with a variety of different settings using Vegas 7.0. The picture quality sucks. I always render to wmv so I hadn't noticed it before.

experiment with a few shirt vids... and find a happy medium... You can get some great quality small file size vids with the Flash video encoder

I FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!.....

1.  Get the Divx Codec and install it.
2.  Watch the tutorial on rendering wow using sony vegas

Yes... I'm a noob at videos... but i'm learning fast.
I hope this helps...  It works!... I tested it.
Now I find Vegas worth the money!
I'll probably buy all the Divx stuff too   (the codec is free)

Well you can compress to Loads of different formats. You can do WMV in 7mbps, MPEG2-4, just go on custom before you render and change the options. I would never compress it to an AVI on vegas. You can even do 1080i MPEG2 in HD if you really want quality results.

Any other suggestions?
What settings work best for you using Divx codec in Vegas?
