on a side note, commander is kinda fun now that i have tried it for the first time....
Or not touche.polarbearz wrote:

You could actually look at my score and realize that 80% of team points are kill assists, and driver points.
You see, I am actually a helicopter pilot that *pays attention* and sets up my gunners, with the occasional area denial.
Or the fact that while I have a decent time as medic, I have 5 times as many kill assists as I do heals.
ROFL:
You are calling me a karkand whore...
but you have more grenade launcher kills than any other weapon.
And you have a sub-1 kill ration with it.
Seriously, you have a sub-1 kill ratio with almost every weapon...
You have more vehicle kills, than you do kills as infantry.
If there is nothing there to command, then resign. Why command when there's nothing to command?
If you want to fly because no ones listening to you, resign and then fly. Or even resign after you get in the vehicle.
But taking the command slot, and then generally ignoring the duties of command is nothing more than MOOCHING COMMAND POINTS.
IMNSHO: the duties of command mean that you are not:
A: taking up a vehicle that could be used on the front lines.
B. Not risking yourself on the front lines yourself.
The "front" in this game is very fluid. Ignoring the command enu for even 1 minute can mean your team loses 3 back flags. As commander it is your JOB to be checking the map. The people FIGHTING are supposed to be too busy to be doing anything other than focusing on their objective.
I have seen hundreds of people who "think" they can both fly, and command at once.
In my experience, they inevitably end up either neglecting one, or doing half-arsed at both.
I have NEVER seen anyone capable of doing both.
And lets face it, since the commander no longer gets anything but a share of his team's points.
All you are doing is inflating your own score at the expense of your team having a viable commander.
And judging by the poll results, I am not alone in my feelings.

FYI, I myself voted for NO.
Karkand wh0re: I did not say n00b-t00ber Learn to read before you speak. I don't ground pound much, I only use the GL @ really really insane ranges to see what I can actually hit. I'd rather play spec ops with the G36C anyway.
I'm don't care about my stats! I can spend one entire night on the sg servers just having pure, unadulterated FUN. Pulling tricks in a CROWDED server will earn you praise and quite a lot of irate teammembers.
What really makes BF2 different from any other FPS is really its vehicles. I would be playing COD2 or something else if I weren't so hopelessly addicted to the vehicles in Bf2. To each his own I say.
How is being commander inflating your own score at the expense of your team? The last time I checked I have a 100+ gold stars flying (no i'm not boasting about it) BUT close to none being commander. Wouldn't my own score (if I was as concerned over it as you are) be much higher if I concentrated on flying?
The point is (which you STILL fail to grasp after so long) THere are times that there are NOTHING to command. No one takes the seat, you have NO squads to order around, EVERYONE is running around half-assedly. I take commander for FUN, order strikes, supplies and UAV in a dive pointing my nose and using the 'T' commo rose.
And put it this way. If i was in a jet I think i'll be much better positioned to take a jeep going at full speed towards one of my back flags than a commander on foot and having no one listening to him at all.

the poll results can suck my pole. I will command and fly and win.
Ptfo
if you can do that I wanna suck your pole too. I need 700 wins for my WCR. Lol.
I normally command and be a gunner in a jet or a chopper, 1. Because i get more points, 2. Im good at doing both 3. Did i mention i get more points?. And most of the time my team owns the other team by at LEAST 70 tickets (most ive had while commanding and flying is 238).

Never have I seen a commander in a flying vehicle do his job well. In fact, my team has won every round where an opposing commander is trying to multi-task like that. I see the enemy's commander's name pop up being killed and think, wow theres another 15 seconds their team is without their copmmander assets. Meanwhile, I'm in my commander screen in 3x zoom view catching every enemy movement and anticipating their next move.
If you guys want to run and gun and command at the same time, go for it. Just don't do it on my team.

Yesterday on Gulf of Oman, I was commander, saw that my team was losing, so I decided to go help them out. I was able to ride around in a tank taking out armor and sending supplies/uav/airstrikes where they were needed. Eventually someone on the enemy team took notice of this and called me a n00b for multi-tasking. In the end we won anyways and I also got my basic commander badge.
Yeah it works sometimes. . . it is just a bit unreasonable on a 64 man server. There you should let the other players use the vehicles. . . at a minimum out of courtesy.GeneralDodo wrote:

But playing vs. laying. . .
In a small server it definitely HELPS, say a 16 man server with a couple AFK players. . . crap you might even equal 10-20% of the total team in terms of manpower! It's almost a must that you play + command. Laying in hiding somewhere in that case is a total waste.

I usually agree but the problem was sometimes your team wont use the vehicle, then by all means take it and help, for example i was using a tank as a commander on karkland (it had been sitting for 7-8 minutes) while i was using it someone came along hoped in the gunner turret and told me to get out so i did but within a few minutes tank back (I got sniped) i waited and got back into tank to keep helping. I don't care if you ask me for the vehicle unless it is a plane (when i die you can have it, I'm not trying to land a mig) But some guy never asked for the tank just sraw'd me! there was no need of this i told him just to ask and come get it but it turns out he didn't want it just thought i couldn't do both. also my team wasn't capping flags i was the only one doing it they were all medic whoring.topal63 wrote:

You can't leave that shit unattended - it's like asking to have your teams tank used against you! And I have seen this odd wont use all the team vehicle behavior on every map of every size. . . but then again sometimes the sky (on a small server or server with a small limited # of players) is owned by some ace-pilot; so your asking to get bombed for sure if you enter any vehicle. . . sometimes.
That's why if the commander is the best pilot around, TAKE the damn jet. For the first time last night i ENJOYED playing with the koreans. They actually APPRECIATED me taking the jet and taking out the enemy pilot who was pwning their korean asses in cleansweep.
If im commanding i'll get into a co-pilot seat if no one else is there, and the pilot says "get in". Then the gunners position isnt just a wasted asset and I can still command.
99% of the time if im told to get out or if someones on the pad i'kk jump out tho and just command.
Just sitting there while command imho is a waste of a person. Sure you can see where people are heading and see each and ever step they take, but by playing an active role you could be handing someone a ammo bag or reviving them, while sending supplies elsewhere and helping others. Plus you can see empty flags for the taking, and most of the time squads are too busy raping a point to listen to go get it. (The get 1-2 points for a capture vs lots more for kills)
Just my opinion and the way ive played my 80+ hours as commander tho, might explain my low win/loss (1.10)

they are a wierd bunch. they are talking in korean on VOIP so when i type please speak english this is a singaporean server they go silent....
Lol. No the BFHQ guys are all 'tards. They could speak english, a little, not too well, but it was fun hearing them cheer me on in a jet.
Yeah, but thats using a land vehicle. You can stare at the command screen from a tank if you have to. Do that ina jet or heli and *kaboom*GeneralDodo wrote:

I have never seen a commander who could pilot and do his job as well as someone who was just staring at the screen the whole game. i mean REALLY do his job, with constant UAV and spotting coverage. I only recently started commanding, and i never, never take an aerial vehicle. I dont even gun in a helicopter because it interferes with commanding. The only time I'll even take a ground vehicle is A: when noone else is using it, and in that case ill usually just sit in it so the enemy doesnt steal it, or B: when somehow one of the enemy vehicles makes it to where i am, and ill sit in it so they cant have it. This isnt to say i dont fight as the commander, but i never go looking for people to kill. usually theyre happy enough coming to me.
Seriously, i dont care who you are, or how good a pilot you are. GTFO of the jet/chopper and do your job, or resign. A good commander can make the difference in a game, and a good pilot can make the difference in a game, but you cant be both at once.

The " I Win " Comment is useless as an argument.
Your team can win with or with out you. You cant win with out your team.
I have been Commander where I mearly supplied them as they walked all over the Enemy.
I have been Commander where not one squad formed and it was useless.
I have been Commander where out of 30 guys 7 were in 2 squads one had four the other three.
Under my direction we turned back every attack held them down and ripped the shit out of them while the 23 players dicked of in separate useless fights.
I felt like I did a good job, Repaired my own assets and defended them untill there spec op guys gave up trying.
It really helped that a Few had Voice com with me. Made orders faster and more specific.
at the End a few said " I was the best commander they ever had "
Some maps Favor a commader and some do not. some of the china maps are tuff to command.
Karkland By far is the easiest and ^DD^GRiPS was blown out of the water I am I not correct?

I command from the air. I also command from the ground. I command wherever I feel it's the best place for me to be at the time I'm doing it. The main thing is, different leaders have different styles of leading. On the server I normally play on, I'm on voice chat with the clan who's server it is. And if I'm commanding from the air, in that situation I don't ever have to open the command screen. I'm in constant communication with the clan members who have several squads, and I constantly know what's going on. They ask for a UAV, or supplies, and I use the quick command menu to give it to them. DICE wouldn't have made a quick command tree if they hadn't intended it to be used.
The main thing is, if you don't like the way I command, go to another server instead of sitting and bitching. There isn't one perfect way of commanding. I had a couple guys bitching and complaining about the fact that I was commanding from the jet last night, saying we had no chance of winning solely because of it. They went on for a while trying to get the server admins to kick me. We ended up losing by 19 tickets. Is that because I was in the jet? No. The guys who were complaining, not a single one of them had a positive kill:death ratio, and none of them had a rank higher than Lance Corporal. While I had over 25 kills and 3 or 4 deaths.

How do you spot from a scan in the pilot seat?
Wouldnt it be easier for you ( one guy ) to move to a new server that wants a Commander to fly a Jet.
Then ask 64 people to move? Allthough judging from the poll results that might be a task.
If you had won it would give you more clout, Maybe if you had given it more attention you would have got those 19 points back.
Also The game is fun Everyone wants to play it . By flying and commanding you are Coping 2 of the Coolest things to do. We all learn to share. Would you fly a Jet, a Gunship, Drive a Tank and command if you could?
I don't scan from the pilot seat. In the situation I'm describing, I don't need to. When you're on voice chat with a clan of people all playing on one server on the same team, you have many pairs of eyes. All of which report back to you what's going on. I don't use artillery, mainly because the members would rather get the kills and points, and it prevents anyone from "accidentally" walking into the arty and getting TKed. If a UAV is requested, it's very easy to put down, as are supplies for anyone on voice chat asking for them. So I'm not asking 64 people to find a new server, and I don't need to find a new server. I've found my server.Horseman 77 wrote:

And I'm also sure I would have gotten those 19 tickets back if those people complaining had had a neutral or positive kill to death ratio. Or really had spent their time doing anything but typing about their disdain to the server admins who were ignoring them because they had no problem with me.
And about sharing. I really don't care if flying and commanding are two of the coolest things to do. I play this game to have fun and relax. I'm not playing it to make sure everyone else has fun. So if I'm commanding from a plane and you don't like it, I really don't care. If I've stolen a tank, or some other vehicle from the other team and you think I should give it up just because I'm commander, too bad.
I've even had the other team abandon their blackhawk at my base in front of me on Mashtuur City. So I took it and kept it up in the air for the remainder of the round. Of course, the other teammates start bitching "why is the MEC commander flying the black hawk?", even though I was transporting troops, etc... if taking the single most devastating vehicle away from the enemy on a map isn't a tactically sound maneuver, then I don't know what is.
Also, just because I don't command the way YOU think I should command, doesn't mean your way is right and my way is wrong. There are times when I'll sit still somewhere and keep my eyes glued to the commander screen. But that's only when I feel it's necessary. I'd rather be an active commander.
