Ok I just got a new Nvidia 6800 GT for my PC and I got a suprise, coppyness on bf2. ok then I though it was only because it was all on high settings then i put everything on medium settings and guess what, it was still choppy. I was like $350 doller graphics card that still has choppness on bf2, thats not right. I updated new drivers and upgrade my ram to 1 GB and looked everywhere on the internet you find answers. Please help me guys.

My specs.
AMD Athlon(tm) 2800+ (2.08 GHz)
(BFG Tech) Nvidia 6800 GT OC overclocked 256MB
1 GB DDR ram
Windows XP
the latest Nvidia driver
80 Gb of hard space

Turn off anti-aliasing. I just upgraded my card to a 256MB Radeon 9550, but have to keep it on medium settings without anti-aliasing. It just sends it over the top and makes it studder when I play online. The other setting to try turning off is dynamic shadows. They aren't exactly necessary.

thats weird, i have:

2,8 ghz Pentium 4
512 DDR ram (330 mhz)
Windows XP pro
Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE 256 TD (256 Ram)
80 GB hd
running on an Nvidia driver that is off August 2005.
(really minimal requirements for BF2)

and i run my BF2 on  Medium with the dynamic stuff 'off'
and it runs just perfect. little lag at joining a server but after a 3 minutes its running smood (little choppy when there is an arty barrage involved)

what your problem can be.
The BF2 patch can be involved maybe you should reinstall all of BF2. might help
(note: BF2 might run in the begin a little choppy, coz of BF2 unstableness EA really did a terrific job)
but also when my Graphic card got replaced coz of the old FX5700 was broken and i got a new one BF2 did run like shit this was coz BF2 registry had a little conflict between the older Card settings and the new one so i erased all the stuff of BF2 , reinstalled all of it, patched it, and then it run a little choppy at the beginning but after a day or 2 BF2 started to run smood.

so u can try to reinstall all of BF2 it costs you a hour of work but maybe it will be worth it

Anti-aliasing fucks it all up...
And it makes the aim worse...

the choppyness is coz of only 1 gig of ram, the 6800 GT should handle high ok

try this,

in console type (press ~ once the game is loaded after you join a server)

renderer.drawFps 1
game.lockFps 200 (default is 100 I believe)

also,

in Videodefault.con change

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates from 0 to 1

I play wif my 2 gigs and 7800 GTX with 16AF and 8AA, and my aim isnt bad, so AA is good, it makes it look better, coz my monitor cant handle more than 1280 res

i think everyone has had that choppyness at one time or another, just gotta tweak it, also i think that it could be server faults too, one time im playing flawlessly on one server then i go on another one and it is terribly choppy! its a good graphics card so i dont think its that?

Am I missing a magic option here or what? There is no 8xAA to choose from, and there is no direct AF settings to choose from. The textures can be considered AF, but you can only choose low, medium, or high.

negatory big fella.  i have 1 GB and have no choppyness, with a 6600GT.

its all in your settings, sometimes you just have to lose some precious eye candy to play smoothly in ALL situations.

That is weird, I have a non-OC ATI Radeon X600 Pro and I have 6x AA on and no choppyness or lag. THe 6800 GT is suppose to be better than a X600 and have choppyness on 2x AA? Wow...

This will help a lot.  There are a few settings you make have to set to medium, but your computer specs are the same as mine cept i have an intel 2.8G and only a 6600.  I run 1280 with 4x and runs fast.  check out this guide.

I'm another owner of the 6800 GT and it can't have everything maxed out, you have to give a little somewhere. I like 4xAA, so I dropped my lighting effects to medium. I get 45-60 fps, which seems low, but I get better picture at 1280x1024 than if I kept lighting higher and dropped the AA.

Also, I notice that the thread starter only has 1 GB of RAM. That will limit him to only use medium textures without any severe fps drops. Need 2 GB to run high textures.

hey i have no choppyness with only lighting on medium and everything else on high.
also I don't have a slot for 2 GB ram so im going to have to deal with it

1 gig will make you lag for first 2 mins of the game, after that should be fine
2 gigs eliminates that problem altogether
