vid card help for cod4

hello...i'm going to buy this game this christmas, but my comp's vid card sucks too much. I'm looking for a minimal video card that just gets the job done. i'm lookin for something that has dx10 (in case i never upgrade again) and between $50 and $150. I've been looking on newegg but all the reviews are the same. thanks to those who help

The 3850 is just as powerful per dollar as the 8800GT.

DX10, which the 7600GT isn't.

Yellowman, for $150 don't count on it to last forever.

I strongly, strongly recommend an 8800GT for ~$300, but that is stretching the budget a bit far I think.

EDIT:

DX10 is not nearly as important as it is made out to be. DX10 only comes into play after you have maxed out DX9 settings - not something that is going to happen on anything less that an 8800GTS/ATi equivalent.

And anyway, COD4 is purely DX9...

Although no DX10, it is a great card for the money, only paid $100 for mine back in July, and have been very very proud of it, runs COD4 on mediumish settings with ease.

I wouldn't really worry about DX10, the only game that actually looks good with it is Crysis, but then there is a HUGE performance hit. Plus you need vista. Wait until summer to start thinking about DX10.

And besides, you'll be putting the 'cry' in Crysis if you try to run it on a $100 video card.

Yeah I agree, I have an X1950XTX and I can run COD4 and crysis on all high with no problem.

The 8600GTS is about on-par with the X1950XT, and the X1950XT is one of the best DX9 cards.

DX10 right now just isn't worth it. It's still about DX9. Worry about DX10 when loads more games support it. And besides, for your budget, you're not going to find a decent DX10 card, but there are plenty great DX9's for that price.

The X1950 PRO will run COD4 on full high, how do I know ??
I have it and I can run COD4 on full high. Buy it but it DOES NOT have dx10.

I would get an 8600GT if you're desperate for the DX10 aspect plus I have it with 2GB ram and a 3.2Ghz P4 which can run quite comfortably on medium settings.
