Gameplay is about plot, character development, "immersion" and that sort of thing.  Granted, the graphics help immersion, but they could have hired a better script writer.
Gameplay is about balance, weapon tweaking, AI, the "feel" and so on....

Story/script/plot is another thing
If you say so.

Half Life 2 still has no weapon tweaking, the wort linearity of many games and mildly stupid AI at best.
Half-Life 2 + Episodes proved that Linear gaming can be totally AWESOME !
The awesome scripted events of HL2 made up for the lacking AI,,,

Scripted events doesn't fail.... you can make so much more awesome scenes than a AI can manage do to right itself...

The Half-life series is THE BEST game series EVER!

Critics agree !

Looks good but it's possible with this version of the engine too to make such screens.

Graphical improvements a key focus, and the sequel moves beyond aliens and Korean soldiers... ?

First details on Crysis 2 have found their way onto the internet in the wake of Crytek boss Cevat Yerli explaining the FPS has been designed as a trilogy.

According to a report on fansite inCrysis - via GameStar.de - Crytek lead animator Steven Bender has let slip that the developer will focus even greater attention on graphics for the sequel, a translation from German explaining, "Their ambitious aim is to push the game's visuals to an advanced level, that could be considered near photorealistic movie quality."

A tiny plot detail is additionally given - that the sequel will concentrate on more than battles with aliens and Korean military. Which, you probably would have guessed at anyway.

And that's your lot for now...

your right in the last thing you said. but i dont understand the fact they are trying to make crysis 2 when crysis 1 is not optimized. optimize crysis 1= more people will buy it. which means those noobs at EA and cryteck will make more money. thats better than spending all that money to make crysis 2 and it still has the same optimizing problems of cysis 1.

if they cant optimize cysis 1, how in the world are they going to accomplish optimizing cysis 2?

Crysis is highly optimized... every single polygon you are not looking on (e.g. stuff behind hills our out of view) are not rendered,,,

Crysis is optimized, it is all the great effects like real-time soft-shadow for every plant and thing and various other pieces of eyecandy, that suck the life out of your rig....

The enormous draw distance (of the world) and the fact that the skybox is only a blue sky with clouds rendered in full 3D below it doens't help your PC either...

Crysis is awesome, we need these kind of games to leap forward in graphics tech once in a while,,,

Crysis is probably well optimized, it's just that it's too powerful for mortal computers to run well.

IMO graphics don't mean a shit if the game itself is good.

Its all great and fun, but if less than 1% of the PC's can run this game in it full glory, what this game is basically designed than why bother buying it? Because really you have to agree with me, the story is meh. The aliens are meh and the weapons are beyond meh, the only thing that gave this game attention are the graphics, but yet most PC's cant handle the prettyness and eyecandy. So really why bother with creating an even more sophisticated game so fast after the first one, if the first one can't even be run smoothly in the first place. And yes, I know that there are several optimized files that you can download etc etc, but isnt it up to Crytek to make the game as smoothly as possible in the first place?
