I used to hate this thing (it's in a thread somewhere on here, I was pretty angry after crashing into crap) but man it's really not bad.

It can elevate really high really fast to get away from AA and circle around a flag like nobody's business.  The TV missile is very very low on the pilot's HUD but that's actually good from my experience, as I don't need to nose down to set up my gunner for shots.  You can nose way down to shoot off your dumbfire missiles and not crash.  The dumbfire missiles are spread far apart making it hard to kill armor with it but making it easier to take out infantry squads.  The fact that they're not good for taking out armor is fine since it's so easy to set up for TV shots.

The only thing it lacks that would make it the ultimate DFA is the uber-cannon from the Mi-28 Havoc.  It's also not too hot in chopper vs. chopper but hey, nobody's perfect.

Not my video:

As much as I'd love the attention, that's not my video, it's just pretty much the only Hind video of SF I could find on youtube.  Here, I'll +1 you back.

But yeah this makes me want to play Red Alert 2 very badly

Using the machinegun as a gunner takes a bit of getting used to. I used to always fire and spray all around my target, but that never worked and only resulted in wasted ammo and an overheated gun. Just tell your gunner to do burst fire when he's got the shot lined up. After that's mastered, it's so easy to wreak havoc on everything.

yeah the hind definitely rocks.  That reminds me, I've been meaning to make a hind video for some time now.  had a good solo round the other night, went about 45-0 on ghost without any base camping.

yeah, the SF choppers are awesome, especially the Hind.that's one reason i wish that they could've just made one bigger map for SF with less fog so that the Hind and Apache could have some nice dogfights.i know SF is supposed to be urban combat, but just one map focused a bit more on the helis would have been great.

Like everything. The Apache is far superior at air to air combat. Being able to hold the trigger down for "rapid fire" gets you nowhere when the missiles are half a mile apart.

As far as i'm concerned (and i remember posting almost this exact message before BF2s died), the Hind is the worst Heli in BF2, while the Apache is by far the best.

Which means whenever i play Ghost Town (ie whenever i play BF2), and i'm the Spetz and i see a free chopper, i just leave it nowadays. I can't stand the Hind.

I just can't get over how the Hind handles, and it's rockets are so wide that i can't hit anything with them.

The Apache on the other hand is a dream to fly. It's rockets go exactly where you want them to, meaning you can fire off a single rocket at a guy thats below you and the rocket'll swoop down for an instant kill. The rockets are almost in the center of the heli so taking out armour is also a piece of cake.

Can't stand the Hind.

i don't think you can really judge seeing as how you can't put the Apache and Hind in a real dogfight.the fact that the Hind is as big as the Skycow might hurt it a bit though...

I have to agree with spidery yoda on the appache, the gunning position is awsome, (the way the tv missile reticle is and the explosive shells), and the manevuerability and speed are amazing. The hind is fine, but it cant get of quickly on ghost town when theres three AA tanks/ at camping the launch pad.

the hind is an acquired taste... difficult to fly at first, but once perfected it is by far the best for infantry rapage.  the apache is well suited to ghost town, but the hind is my choice for gator.  once you have mastered the circle of death, you are basically unstoppable.  on mass des. and surge, the hind really comes into its own.  tanks can be taken down with rockets!  don't just try to run straight on against armor, as most of your rockets will miss.  the trick is to start by circling above the armor, until you have them lined up for a rocket shot.  you'll notice that as you fire rockets while your spinning, the rockets will all hit the same spot.  make sure the armor is on the receiving end of the shots, and you can't go wrong.  4 rockets will take out any tank or apc, so you only have to line up one side of your hind.  also, the steeper your angle of attack, the more pinpointed the rockets will be.  this probably sounds really confusing, and i can't find any video examples (the posted video doesn't show any sustained circles)... just hop in with an experienced pilot, and you'll soon see what i mean.

flying the hind requires a different mindset than the apache.  the apache is great for speedy attack runs against armor and other enemy postions.  very simple... you find a target, and fly in rockets blazing, and then egress behind cover.  the hind is a little different.  it requires some thought before you attack, especailly with regard to all of the threats you might see after you start your attack.  you have to predict where an enemy is going, and try to surprise them from above or behind.  when i start out flying, i basically head to where i know an enemy tank will be, unless my team spots any other threats.  once i've picked a target, i'll set up a good circle of death above them, giving my gunner a shot or taking care of business myself.  while i'm doing this, i'll pick my next target, and keep the circle going until i can smoothly move on to the next target.  i'm usually flying sideways more than head-on with the hind, as it's easier to immediately start a circle of death when necessary.

the last bit of advice, if you are locked onto by an enemy, DONT PANIC!  so many people hear that sound and flip out.  then they crash because they try some crazy-ass barrel roll that the hind really shouldn't be doing.  when you hear the lock, you have to make a quick decision to fight or flight.  this decision should be entirely based on what you can most easily do in the stiuation.  if you see the threat (tracers, missle trails, etc), then you should easily be able to position yourself for a counter-attack.  if the attack came from behind, you need to get low and far away fast.  use cover, and try to determine where the attack has come from. (use the map!)  if you have damage, you will need stealth to take out the threat, even if it means flying all the way around the outside of the map to get behind the enemy.  if you have full health, you can go heads up against the threat.  no igla or stinger can take out a heli with only two shots, so even if your flares fail and you still get hit, you can finish the job.  if the target is an AA tank, well you have to hope you can divert at least two of the missles with your flares, and then finish off the enemy.  i cannot stress enough about the importance of staying calm.  focus on one target at a time, and fly with a purpose.  ALWAYS use your map.  situational awareness is the single greatest skill a soldier can have.  when you hear the "enemy armor spotted" open your map and find the bastard.  a hind is great for close support, and your ground troops will thank you for it.

practice and perfect the circle of death move, and you will come to love the hind as much as i do.  i've lost count of all the kick votes against me and how many gator servers i've emptied out because of the hind.

Best chopper by far, for me. Maybe because I learned it first (at least 100 of my chopper hours are in the Hind), but the other choppers don't give me the same feeling of total domination.

Is is harder to master, but in the right hands it becomes the best circle of death killing machine. In my (long) experience with the Hind, it has a huge advantage in dogfights vs the Apache, as it can go higher much faster. The sluggish handling becomes a plus for good pilots, as Steelie explained.

And it rocks for soloing.

Just some examples, and I'm ignoring all my Gator screens:

I have over 100 screenshots of round like these.
The Hind is good as any other chopper, if you learn how to use it. It just requires a more pondered approach to the round. Fly cautiously the first couple of minutes to scan the opponents: if they are AA-happy, if there is any good pilot. Then adapt your flying style to the round.

He isn't a generous pilot. He is a pilot who knows his job. Definitely a gunner's pilot as opposed to a gunner's nightmare (constantly engaging with rockets, diving on to targets etc) +1 for him.

too bad i rarely find gunners who know what they are doing. i'll line a guy up no problem if he can shoot, but it quickly becomes evident if they do not use f9, or can't hit anything with the tv.  sitting still in the flying tank is a good way to die, so moving frequently and circling are good ways to stay alive.  unfortunately, this usually means less kills for the gunner.
