Many were hoping, but Blizzard has confirmed that its massive RTS sequel to StarCraft will not be released this year. Release info for the much anticipated StarCraft MMO meanwhile is still up in the air. Ahem.

Anyway, speaking to MSNBC, Rob Pardo, Blizzard's VP of game design, said that the StarCraft sequel is "definitely not" going to be released this year.

"The only thing I can give you [that's] concrete is it's not going to be this year," he said. "Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we'd have it out by Christmas, but that's definitely not happening." Disappointing news for the fans who've been waiting nearly ten years already, then.

In the interview, Pardo also explained how the developer managed to keep one of the most long-awaited game announcements in history under wraps for so long.

"We keep games under code names and we teach developers to refer to games by their code name," he said. "And we're just really careful about talking about the game internally. We don't bring external folks through unannounced product areas. But I think even I'm surprised that we were able to keep it under wraps all the way to the end."

I have seen the trailer and watched the 4 demo's of gameplay.

Like unnamed said it looks polished so i think they need to put alot more in.No so much unit based.
But graphic based.Especially with games of this Era its should look alot better.

But the negative comment didn't exactly explain why he didn't like the game.

He said "starcraft sucks balls",i don't mind if people don't like a game and explain why.
I think its called contructive negative comment not a useless one.

Wouldn't be the first time. They scrapped the animated Warcraft adventure game ('Lord of the Clans', I believe), but SC2 is a bit further along than that was.

about 80-90% of people who play games grew up with starcraft. ill play starcraft, warcraft and any of the command and conquer series games anyday over 2142

RTS gamers who say "Starcraft sucks" are merely quasi-gamers, blind to gameplay and lead on by promises of shinier eye-candy, no matter how cruddy the controls may be. Starcraft's graphics are dated, true, and the interface is somewhat limited, but it remains one of the most balanced games to date, topped by chess and checkers.

There is a huge following of Starcraft fans waiting for the sequel. If they do a half-decent game, they'll rake in millions. In Korea SC is some sort of national sport...

The fact that this is one of the few, if not the only, RTS game that has specific build orders says quite a bit about this game. Every strategy had a counter, and every counter had a counter. Even the very well put together RTS of today have trouble matching the original SC's level of strategic detail (Total War and CoH included).

A buddy of mine called me up yesterday and mentioned something about Starcraft 2. We used to pull many all nighters playing Starcraft back in like...6th grade? It's pretty cool to see them come out with an updated Starcraft with better graphics and new weapons and such, but the sad part is that when the original Starcraft and Brood War was out and poplular, I was in middle school, and had plenty of time to waste my life playing it all day and night, but now, there is simply no time to play this new Starcraft . I rarely find time to pub anymore, and find myself spending only a few hours and day on the computer, and most of that is not gaming. So, yes, I'm excited for the release of this game, but am kinda dissapointed it came out when I wasn't in school anymore . Anyway, the game looks great, and I'm glad they added some new units and shit, looks pretty nifty.

I'll just have to get used to playing these new maps, I always played money maps back in the day .
