i had 512megs of ram and now added a gig
so i have 1.5 gigs of ram = 150$
i have a radeon X300 128mb grafix card= Price unknown.
but i have to say the internet takes the cake..
adelphia cable for 50$ a month and i am the first or second guy in the game
its all good, i bought a piece of shit dell, spent around 300 bucks and its L33T.

EDIT: HaHa this is funny, the first HD i had was a Maxtor 80GB..
playing BF2 for 15 hours straight i melted the core of it and it broke, haha.
i need a new case and some case fans.

Anyone know about mounting the Motherboard and a good case to get.
Case fans are also needed.
same with me.  i bought an 8400.  got a new HSF. had to mod.  used twist tie to hold a led 120mm fan near the front USB jacks(now light comes out in the dark)(blue).   added 500gb Raid 0.  before removing the x300SE i OCed to 390mhz.  Replaced with Powercolor X850XT .  Added Dell Aux fan.  Added Audigy 2 ZS. added a BFG 550Watts PSU without cutting the back open.  and theres my new leet dell.  but still my custom built comp is better.

hm...
i didnt think of that...
i can put a fan on the front where the grate is, i tore the whole front panel off cause it was bugging me and it was plastic so i just broke the bitch off to find a grate on the front.
whta kind of fan did you get for it? and does that fan work efficiently to keep the computer cool?

You cannot use Crossfire on a SLI motherboard. Also, there is no 40GB IDE 10,000rpm drive.
yeah, so exaclty how DO you plan to run Cross-Fire on an SLI board when CrossFire requires a CrossFire compatible motherboard? You just wasted a bunch of money! ROFLMAO!
Obviously the guy was just bullshitting, you can't run Cross-Fire on a A8N as you said. For 1000$ he should go with a Opteron 146, a 6800GT or GS, a DFI LP series mobo and 2GBs of ram.

Ya!! You might as well buy a Itanium2 and stick it into a Slot 1 Motherboard

Jenspm,
If you can answer a few questions for me I can hopefully have a list of suggested parts and price put together by tommorrow evening.
1. About how experienced with building/maintaining PCs are you?
2. I know this will be used for BF2, what else will it be used for? (are you going to be storing lots of music, writing papers with it, etc...)
3. What is your maximum budget?
4. What sort of look/style would you like?

Let me know of any other questions/concerns/comments you may have. Feel free to pm me. I am willing to help you as much as is possible.
Well,
1. This is the first time I build a PC!
2. I use it mostly for bf2 and other computer games (cs:s, medal of honor etc.) and of course some occasional word-documents. I would like to have photoshop...
3. my maximum budget is like i said 1 000 usd (that is without mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers)
4. i like PCs with lights in many colors, glass and all that other cool stuff. Futeristic!

My Recommendation:

AMD 64 3000+ (not to expensive and does a good job)
3 Gb RAM
X800 pro  (not a high end graphic  but also not so expensive)
SATA HD

Not a bad rig Crypto, but i would change the mobo to a skt954, with a PCX video card (gotta keep upto date and not spend money on components that will soon (in the next few years), be obsolete (8x AGP), and difficult to find and replace.
PCX video cards and AMD 64 CPUs cant be all THAT expensive...........

HAHA wilhelm, but that is WAY to expensive! They build the PC's for you, and if I am going to aford a good PC, I have to build it myself.

Dont think there are any cards marked crossfire - just the motherboard. The cards refer to the gate on the motherboard, either AGP, PCi or PCi-express most likely.

I recent the guy being flamed beyond reason just because he dont know what he`s talking about !

I never flamed him. Also, there are cards marked as crossfire. You need 1 card, then the crossfire edition of that card. Crossfire is ATI's ansewr to SLI.

OK, I have got a lot of good advise now but i have one problem: I live in Norway and newegg doesn't ship overseas... The Norwegian web-sites are way to expensive, so does anyone know of a good English (or from ather countries in Europe) web-sites for buying these things?

Two X1800Xt's? Why not go all the way with 2 7800 GTX's 512 mb (SLI)
It rapes those two gay x1800's.
Nvidia has had Ati as its puppet for the last year and it isnt going to change anytime soon.

Either way it's a waste of money, the performance boost does not justify the cost. Also, ATi has been the leader untill the 7800gt came out. When Ati releases their R580 they will be ahead again, this is how it is, it goes back and forth between the 2. So, quit saying stuff like "those two gay x1800's", the reality is they are awesome cards. ATI will always do better in games they are optimized for, and Nvidia will always do better in games they are optimized for. Quit being so closed minded about this stuff, always look for the best deal.

Shop around and if this your first time building a computer get some experienced assistance. Nothing worse than snapping the mobo on installation or damaging the pins on the processor. Plus someone that has put together a system knows the best order to do things in already and might save you some headache and cuts. If you have the means grab a Sound Blaster X-Fi, I just put together a rig for about 1300 USD and that sound is pretty immersive. A great perk if you can afford it. ( btw only really works with BF2 atm )

Also if you want to keep the cost down you really dont need the dualing vid cards unless you are into benchmarking, numbers and making your friends jealous. Check dedicated computer / electronic stores for deals. Here we have Frys Electronics and they sell processors and mobos for great prices. Downside is you have to take their mobo which isn't always ... ever the best but it works well enough.

Routers ... eh I dont think there is much other than what brand you like most. The routers that are for "gaming" are really only beneficial to you if you share the bandwith with someone in your place. Say they are doing like P2P stuff, large downloads and such then your gaming packets will be prioritized and you'll see improvement..otherwise it's not really worth it.

Old issues of Maximum PC and PC Gamer can be helpful. Especially PC Gamer #144 I have here that has a photo tutorial on building a computer.

Porndoggs hot tip - 2 x 36 gb raptors on raid combined with 1 or 2 gb or good corsair or kingston ram should have you speeding around rather nicely. A 3200 amd (not to rich but plenty or room for overclocking, mines running faster than fx-55 atm) other than that, last series graphics to save the $$ and the rest is pretty much just filing in the gaps......

Just popped in a new motherboard, x800gto2 and opteron 144 to go with my 1gb ram (2x512mb) and 74gb WD Raptor. Flashed the raptor to unlock the extra 4 pipe lines, pushed the core and mem to 500mhz each ( I haven't found the max for each yet) and I'm running at 6200 in 3dmark05 and BF2 is smoooooth, not bad for ~ £350

The opteron should go up from 1.8ghz to 2.6-2.8 once I pull my finger out and clock it.

BF2 is optimized for nVidia xD ... Havent you noticed the nVidia blabla vid in the demo ^^....  And they did better until the 6800 Ultra (beacuse of Shader Model 3.0 ... OOOOOhhh that looked so much better in Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - great game with great coop part...)
