Well he said he's got 3 1920x1200 monitors. So assuming he's gaming with eyefinity at 5760x1200, he would realistically need a minimum of 2 HD7970 level cards to have good frame rates in bf3.

So the choice is the eyefinity, the cards are simply what he needs to power such a set up.

(This is all assuming he is gaming in eyefinity of course)

Pre-kids, I was about the same. My next primary build will probably be similar though, but with just two GPU's and avoiding the Vertex. I'm also looking into those 27" LG IPS panels coming out soon.

Got myself a 4-bay external HDD case and a slimline external DVD drive, letting me fuck off a whole bunch of cables and adapters. Removing the top HDD bays also let me add in a fourth fan, so now my case once again has an intake, rather then just three exhausts.
