The Bjork person was upset that she dated or made reference to dating blacks. He made a bunch of mail bombs. He mailed them to several people including her. Somehow, he uploaded his suicide to the internet in the 90's or early 2000's. He was...well I will spare you imagination. Anyhow, they stopped the mail bomb before they got there though they would have killed or maimed whomever opened her mail her before her.

I met a girl at Rutgers who was a total nerd back in 2013. Yadda yadda yadda if I ever mention moving to Michigan you can guess I went "all in" on this girl.

new burial was released yesterday. easily one of the most influential producers of the last 15 yrs or so.

rare for a new music release to feel like an 'event' in the always-online, streaming-everything world, but it's nice to check twitter and the music press today/yesterday and see everyone discussing the exact same thing, and sharing in equal enthusiasms. wow ... connection and community built around music! how very retro.

his music has developed in a really interesting way since the post-dubstep era. much more ambitious now. long suites with lots of ambience and slow development. still somehow perfectly encapsulating that feeling of being lost in london in the winter. every year aroundabout christmas or so he pops up from his mysterious obscurity and leaves us with another offering.

still one of the best electronic albums of the 21st century thus far.

That's funny, I was just telling Macbeth on discord about this. I think I said it was much more contemplative than ever.

he went ambient on the last few EPs, or started including long ambient b-sides on the flip to his more regular drum-based stuff.

what’s more interesting is his shift, tonally, from the early albums being about urban isolation, anomie, heartbreak, etc, to something much more restorative and hopeful now. the sampling and audio nods to much more affirmative and upbeat genres of music (recent EPs have had peak-rave-era happy hardcore as well as almost 1980s stadium rock levels of euphoria).

he’s extremely elusive and has only given about two interviews, ever, as well as only releasing two photos or so (and those very recently after like a decade of feverish speculation). from what little he has said, it sounds like he’s making music now explicitly to help out people with their loneliness etc.

totally singular producer who has managed to carve his own sound in an era of software-induced homogeneity. his imitators are legion and nobody captures the same vibe, that missing ingredient.

I hate Einaudi. I just can't stand his music and anything like it. Can't really explain. It just feels like piano for simpletons. It grates my ears and feels like an auditory experience akin to eating at a really shitty mcdonalds. Most people who like his stuff are, coincidentally, pretentious simpletons.

that's an incredibly hot take, there. einaudi makes classical for people who don't listen to classical?

now talk to us about alban berg.

Someone told me they like einaudi and started blasting it after I said I occasionally listen to classical. It took near inhuman self control to remain civil

i feel the same way every time someone tells me they 'love techno', or the 2010s equivalent, 'i love dubstep', then start blasting EDM or some equally heinous shit they found on the spotify/youtube algorithms.

the solution is to kill all normies.

nils frahm i feel occupies a special cross-over area here between insufferable, twee, fake-classical and electronic hipster. that guy gets on my nerves.

no einaudi is objectively worse. I can actually enjoy a mcdonalds meal if it doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. As far as eating metaphors go, einaudi is like a michelin starred restaurant serving you a processed hamburger on a not even toasted bun. In the kitchen there's all the ingredients and machinery to make something amazing, but the head chef is such a fucking tosser that a fucked up burger is all he can muster. You don't even understand how he made something so fucking bad, but it's there.

That's Einaudi. It's as though he let a three year old toddler pick the chords on a steinway, while another equally retarded child gets to play conductor for the orchestra.

Techno/EDM I feel can actually be enjoyed in simplistic forms because it's not inherently meant to be a high culture experience.

I also see what you did there u cunt

he releases on a formerly rock/post-rock label that has now become very middle-aged. they call it 'contemporary classical'. i hate it.

his whole schtick seems to be being very emOtiOnaL during live performances. recently he has begun layering synth arpeggios over his piano work because ~electronic~ is cool now. why would anyone listen to nils frahm live when keith jarrett exists?!?
