so normally i pull up the server list, sort by ping, and pick one from the lowest 20 servers i got, usually 0-30 ping, by the time i log on, it gets to be from 50 down to the occasional single digit

tonight however, i keep getting kicked before i can spawn for "high average ping" in 150's and up, after logging on to a server that was single digit ping on the list (how you can have a reliable average in the first 5 seconds im not sure), i had not changed my vid settings since last time i played trouble free, in fact i've lowered it since i started experiencing the issue. the only difference i could think of was that i updated to the new Norton sys works and IS when my scrip expired, could this be related? anyone else experience this with norton? I'm usually pleased with the product, it's stopped more than a few hacks, and have not had issues with it interferiing wiht my online play in the previous 10 years i've used it.

ps, i even manage to maintain a lower than 50 lag on some servers, yet shoot like an epileptic seizing on a mechanical bull

Your graphic setting should have zero effect on your ping

When I was using Norton AV on this machine, around the time I was first playing, I eventually learned to turn it off entirely before loading BF2 as it was definitely affecting the connection speed and it I think it slows map loading also.

BTW Norton would sometimes reload itself in the background, which was fun.

Norton's is a huge resource hog.  I switched to Zone Labs.  Doesn't use up as much resource.
