You need a salad spinner: From amazon

And to start using red/green leaf lettuce. That iceberg is plain tasting and plain looking.

That'd fancy up that salad right quick

Anyhow, I made a Mediterranean salad with fresh diced tomatoed and olives.
Well, it's a start. IMO a lot of those olives to eat in one sitting though. To help you get through that lettuce, use it in a burger, stir fry it, or mix in some darker greens.

try: chickpeas, red onions, Kalamata olives, cucumber, bell pepper, feta, salt, pepper, citrus/parsley vinaigrette. cherry tomatoes optional, though your diced tomatoes could work in a pinch. avocado if they're cheap where you live. half a dozen ingredients and a few flavorful ones, and your salad will be less sad.

bring home a can of dolmades.

Not the brand I find but probably still delicious esp with a side of yogurt sauce and rice.

I love grape leaves. I will check those out even though I might be too used to fresh ones. I like canned sausages but am trying to stay away from that stuff.

I can cut up the sausages and and mixed them with rice and beans.

Today, I made hibachi rice. I fried rice with soy sauce, an egg, and fresh chopped garlic. I forgot to pick up butter but it worked without it anyway. I bought the rice from a Chinese place though I have white rice at home. I didn't feel like messing around with rice just yet. I need to watch a video on it.

How do I store garlic?

Vienna sausages are probably a pretty neat travel staple if you aren't a vegetarian. Rice is easy if you have one of those electric rice cookers, but unneeded (learn knuckle method). Of course, use less sticky white rice unless you're rolling gimbap or something.

Speaking of, a gimbap roller is a nice little monotool to have. Literally a snack food I don't feel bad about having for lunch. Slap some saran wrap on the roller (washing them otherwise is a pain) and make yourself a seaweed/rice burrito out of whatever. Carrots and pickled radish are great, also green onions or radish green kimchi. You can show off your packed lunch to your work subordinates.

I love grape leaves. I will check those out even though I might be too used to fresh ones.
I used to get them made at a Greek guy at his restaurant while that was still operating. The canned ones I get occasionally are imports from Turkey. I don't order them special or anything, they're already stocked periodically at the chef store int'l section. Still quite good. Like 5 layers of 20 dolmades each, I think. Irresistible. I've tried my hand at making them, but it's work. Worth learning maybe if you grow grapes, otherwise you can buy the leaves bottled.

rice tea, by the looks of it. those are brown/white rice pods on the packaging. isn't it dried rice in the teabag?

top-left of packaging seems to suggest it's a mix of rices. 70%/30%.

that stuff is normally served as a side at meals. it's nicer when cold/chilled, i find. it aids digestion. you can find a lot of it in the fridge section at their convenience stores, taken in the same way that an iced tea would be consumed in the states, i imagine.

korean ginseng tea is a nice hot drink. both are pretty traditional here and only seen really in more traditional restaurants. koreans drink coffee, like the rest of the world. their coffeeshop culture is world-class.

Whatever happened to this thread? It's a new school year, I thought we might see some revitalization of "what do I do with this cabbage?"

150 lbs should be about the dead center weight (average) for a 5'9er. Not otherwise indicative of nutritional health other than Mac isn't obese.

speaking of delinquent and infantile cooking skills, the other day i expressly left the apartment with a mission to buy european butter, good waxy potatoes, nutmeg, whole fat milk, etc. to just make up the biggest batch of mash potato.

had it with some spanish ham sliced and mixed in. super buttery.

was feeling homesick for stolid european food and no fucking way was i going to pay $25 for a tiny portion of the same at one of the few ‘western’ restaurants in this city.

no regrets.

Why didn't you buy almond milk? Have you learned nothing from Newbie, a man who whimpers at the sight cheeseburgers?

mash potato with almond milk? are you sick? you need full fat to get the right consistency and taste.

it’s the first time i’ve bought a carton of milk practically since being here, actually. not noted for its good milk. the butter was ridiculously expensive and french.

with every delicious bite, yes.

i don’t think dairy cows are particularly abused in the milking process for what it’s worth. though i am also an admirer of a fine leather shoe.
