is your pandemic response still in the ‘if only we had punished china …’ stage? cute.
new zealand have abandoned all pretence of zero covid.
where’s all these great success stories based on the Dilbert Knows Best model?
nope, really. omicron vaccine is in trials this week. antiviral pills are in manufacture. these two things in tandem will deliver us 90% of the way out of the pandemic’s worst effects. the rest will be prudent personal behaviour and well regulated risky events/choke points. that’s it.
no amount of whining about the vaccine’s long-term efficacy will change this picture. it’s here to stay and so is the next 3-5 years of vaccine efforts, at least.
stopping a pandemic scale virus from mutating, that is, pursuing global scale suppression to drastically cut transmission, would require a level of perfect global cooperation the likes of which we have never countenanced as a species. it’s more than a moonshot.
really, relying on the more prosaic forms of shot is much more feasible, mr resident engineering solutions.
