we are still dating. NEET is an Asian specialty. that South Korean girl I am dating lives in central London – admittedly not in the ridiculous 1% opulence of the HK girl – and does absolutely nothing. technically she's over here to 'find a job in advertising' but she isn't applying for anything. she just goes out for food all the time. in Western European cultures, particularly the northern and anglo-Saxon ones, I feel like there's a huge cultural shame about being unemployed or idle. Asians seem to get floated by their families a lot more.

their economy is fucked and the youth are unemployed there out of disgrace and lassitude. it is not a pretty situation. i feel like pampered asian kids is a slightly different thing. i also did not necessarily mean it as a bad thing. it's not like the rich and gifted youths of the european industrial and mercantile bourgeoisie didn't loaf around and do nothing.

No there's still a stigma about not being able to get a job once you're out of uni. It's just the parents won't ever cut off the cash for their kids. There isn't really ever a time when the kids have to be completely independent from home, so no real 'push' to really find a job. A lot of times they're expected to take over the family business.

Remember there's a whole 'face' thing in terms of what your kid is doing. Studying or working abroad is a big plus. If your kid is abroad and not working, who will really find out?

Generalising they're lazy, dishonest, corrupt and narcissistic.

According to an Italian I know people depend on personal contacts for both advancement and avoiding actual work, hence most of the public service retires on a full salary at 50 having done exactly nothing during their careers except take bribes and assist their friends and family.

The Spanish men I've had dealings with are dishonest as fuck but still expect you to be their friend.

the system is corrupt and places like italy have been that way for so long that no one knows any different. if that's the way you have to adapt to form a career or get ahead, of course a certain segment of the population are going to do so. it's not like it's innate. italy spent a long time under a corrupt as fuck government.
