We have renamed the pacific.

Pacific is a stupid name considering how many sharks are in it.

I can send you the text of this article by some hipster if you don't have a sub and it might cheer you up.

Although it has 'dork' in the url, not sure what that means.
LMAO. because of course, after all your attitudinising and posturing as some tribune of the people, and railing against oksferd PPE grads … you’re actually reading robert reich for your political takes. an ivy league and oxford PPE grad career mandarin nonpareil.

see what i mean? your worldview is poxed with your silly personal grievances and a bunch of deluded nonsense about the singular superiority of engineers when it comes to fixing society. why are you reading an oxford PPE grad’s substack, of all things? even i don’t do that.

i guess his name has ‘reich’ in it so that must have been a draw.

should've called it new sealand.

jokes aside, doge quietly backtracking on false claims, making stealth edits like a bf2s moderator. not sure what's going on there. it's all very opaque.

Maybe if you'd read more widely, mid-brow sci-fi for example, you wouldn't have found yourself in the Idiocracy trap and living in a country under permanent threat of Godzilla attack.

DOGE is so dumb. elon posted a screenshot basically showing that he doesn’t understand the data from social security. like ‘week one of my data scientist career’-type stuff. and we are meant to believe this guy is personally keeping satellites in orbit.

his big scoop yesterday? many government departments have spare software licenses which they’re not using. gasp! the world hegemon has 20 too many copies of adobe suite!

at one point he was complaining that a department had several hundred winzip licenses. that’ll bring down the deficit. oh no, it won’t, because - just like in trump’s first term - the republicans are busily passing bills that add trillions more to the debt.

the entire idea of DOGE as a cost-cutting weapon or counter to fraud is a non-starter. it’s an ideological blunderbuss and that’s about it. scattershot firing of federal staff and generally terrorising the remainder with a lot of smoke
and loud noises.

everything you post now just reminds me of that artful take on curtis yarvin as someone who makes baldly fascistic statements and then retreats into humour and guess-me-wrong irony. it is entirely symptomatic of the right-wing in 2025. no cohesive worldview or program but a desire to see things torn down, and basically being fine with people unlike you or lower than you on the totem pole being harmed in the process. it’s all for the LULZ! you just can’t understand it with your midwit IQ! trust the plan! huehuehuehue

DOGE is part of the smoke and mirrors.

The economy is circular, diverting stuff here and there doesn't actually change anything.
The debt is the bigger problem and thats only going to increase until there's a colossal default which stops the world.

the difference is that you delight in these results. not because the politics align with your own class position or interests, but because it validates a bunch of petty and personal grievances you have.

sorry but if you (quite reasonably) want to defend your job and status or your country’s place in the pecking order, not being a nazi isn’t that hard.

i suppose the irony isn’t lost on you that most of the people who are interested in genuine alternatives to ‘extreme centrism’ that has got us into this mess are arts and humanities types. the engineers you rate so highly so far have only proposed shades of autocratic-accelerationist-fascistic hell. but, again, you’re beholden to your little marvel vs. DC worldview.

there's probably a bit of irony to that movie, having been made by a bunch of creatives, being used as a homebrew meme in today's arguments.

again, i don’t find this cynical act to be particularly intelligent. you congratulate yourself that you’re ’fiddling while rome burns’, but really it’s a sort of intellectual laziness. ‘everything is going to shit so may as well make some racist remarks about the legacy of slavery, advocate for white nativism, punch down on some minority groups, and cheer at election results for neo-nazis’. yeah … not very impressive, actually.

read adam tooze on the polycrisis over at substack, seeing as you have an account.

oh, don’t even. the STEM class always undervalue creative labor, even if it’s making middling drivel like that movie. all the prophets of AI generative slop have made it quite clear that they can’t tell the difference between a job well done and absolute dreck.

the irony IS entirely lost on them that all their favourite IPs and subsequent memes were made by highly committed, systematically underpaid creatives who they would wish to automate out of existence with their shiny new technological gewgaws. ‘founder mode!’

valorisation of action for action's sake is actually a characteristic of fascism.

but hey, don't ask me, ask a guy that grew up in the original fascist regime:

"The cult of action for action’s sake. “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
https://www.openculture.com/2024/11/umb … scism.html

impatience with process, protocol, regulations, institutional practices, etc. is also a hallmark of populism.

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/3f4c/live/4cd31ba0-efd9-11ef-a819-277e390a7a08.jpg

DOGE are a great example of chesterton's fence in practice. people who presume to understand everything because of their galaxy-brain STEM personalities, but who actually don't even have the foggiest for why things are being done the way they are done already. ascribing the functioning of the federal government to 'woke mind virus' would be sheerly laughable if its consequences weren't so harmful.

where is anyone proposing that, you dipshit? why is reading salient policy thinkers/advisers paramount to 'doing nothing'? that's how good governance has mostly always taken place, you idiot.

i mean, what do you even propose? putting a bunch of people totally inexperienced in government in positions of seniority, presumably approving of them reading or learning nothing about the organisations they helm, and making drastic cuts? letting oligarchs strip mine the organs of state?

you parrot the lame populist shit about 'being tired of experts' but you know full-well that elon hasn't got a clue how to run a government. you would genuinely rather let a person set back the west a generation in the global multi-polar world just because they have a STEM background and make comic book meme jokes, and because their actions spite 'liberal elites'. totally unproductive, ideologically motivated claptrap.

you genuinely think that your position of golf-clapping at the unfolding circus is somehow 'wise'. why a middle-aged man adopts this edgy online edgelord persona, i'll never know. even more mystifying, you're reading reich -- literally the sort of career insider you otherwise rail against. okay, then, don't read a world-renowned analyst, read listicles from a stooge of the liberal establishment.

i mean, do you actually have a clue or is it all attitudinal posturing with you, all the way down? tooze is widely regarded as one of the leading authorities today on the crisis we face - why wouldn't you want to read him to orient yourself? it's not 'inaction' to get your analytical bearings, ffs. the anti-intellectualism you espouse while on the other hand insisting on high-IQ types is really fascinating. a case study in insular maladaptation. one would think your main animus against humanities types, after all, is that they do read this stuff and do care enough to acquire a clue what they're talking about. your impatience with that isn't indicative of your higher understanding or politick, dilbert.
