I did my undergrad thesis on civil military relations. The FBI is practically a paramilitary organization itself. I think we are headed towards a July 20th situation where someone in the military decides to take out Musk and the administration. I don't think it will be a big conspiracy involving multiple members. But a teenager wounded Trump. Another guy was in a bush waiting to take a shot. There are definitely military members thinking over how they could do it.

Musk is scraping data to find out how to capture more government spend. He's going to come out and say something to the effect of, "look at all these inefficiencies! I can do it for less." The techno-libertarian types like Thiel are rocking 24/7 hard-ons now that they have government spend data. It was never ever about reducing waste and always about raiding government coffers.

Meanwhile we are in a "constitutional crisis" because our elected and appointed officials are too busy being vexed about what's going on to actually do their job, because at the end of the day they are all completely disconnected with the average American.

i wonder if eraserhead regrets registering to linkedin as bigballs or if it was a calculated move intended to appeal to musk's juvenile sense of humor.

his 'global experts' are all recruited basically based on his criteria of what's 'awsm' or 'lolz'. it's very midwit reddit brain from 5 years ago.

the 'star' AI kid they brought onboard, who did make some solid contributions towards improving OCR technology for reading indecipherable scripts, basically got the job because he was in the news for an 'awsm' ancient greek classicist story. and we all know about the very large and very vocal demographic on twitter/x who have greek statues and roman avatars and profess to be terribly concerned about 'western civilisation'. musk recruited the AI ancient greek guy because it again fits into that dumb little niche of alt-right terminally online culture wars rubbish. god knows what making coding contributions towards OCR techniques has to do with competence at running a national government.

It is crazy how Trump himself has faded into the background. This is just like Biden in 2020. Except this time the shifty advisor is too stupid to not do it lowkey.

We are going to have to storm the White House along with MAGA to rescue Trump from the Silicon Valley weirdos.

My favorite part is that conservatives think because of this their taxes will go down so they're cheering it on.
The money you think they're saving sure isn't going to you fatty. Your taxes will go up, the price of bon-bons will go up, and your fox news subscription will go up.

Its funny how after 10 years of saying anyone is as qualified as anyone else to be in a position of power and their degree subject is irrelevant you're outraged some non-hipsters have been hired and going berserk poring over their CVs and villain back-stories.

If I've learned anything from Marvel its that as soon as the action starts the villain's back story ceases to matter - it leaves the story arc and ends when he's defeated.
Not so much DC though, and its often ambigous whether the hero character is really the hero character or the villain, and vice versa.

Thats the real question here - is this going to play out like Marvel or DC?

Looking like DC at the moment

if kamala harris had won the election and then immediately installed bill gates in a private suite next to the white house and given him access to everyone’s social security number and allowed him to shut down the entire government payroll … what would you say?

you approve of what’s happening because it’s musk enacting your weird little comic book nerd fantasies of revenge.

i have no problem with the idea of meritocracy. i’m not averse to the notion of bringing in experts from outside of government and getting some practical people in the room to solve some problems. but this is never that, is it? the cummings-musk playbook isn’t really about trying to find the best and the brightest to solve a problem: it’s about having an ideological project, a preconceived notion that ‘government bad’, and going in to wreak as much damage as possible.

what meritocrat could genuinely believe that the 4 best-equipped people in the nation to deal with inefficiency, corruption, or what have you … is 4 zoomers with actually zero experience of anything?

https://x.com/blackmajer/status/1886821 … 7OKnIcMVqg

you know it’s nonsense but you’re cheering anyway because, again, of your little nerd power fantasies and because proceedings resemble a movie script - with a raft of bad writing and clichés and pantomime villain crap. because of course that's all entirely on a wavelength with what musk consumes and what conditions his behaviour. it's a parodic imitation of 'genius CEO/public enemy no.1' from the same guy who lies about having video game high scores.

you’re really very sad and pathetic to look at the world through this lens of ‘the decadent snobs in government are getting their medicine!’ i don’t give a fuck what undergraduate degree someone got 20 years prior. that only reflects your own stuck life, dilbert. i don’t judge politicians on that and i don’t think your average bureaucrat in some backroom doing payroll is this pantomime effete snob figure you keep invoking, either. you’re a very silly man.

how about we discuss reality as the complex thing that it is and not view everything as a fucking children's entertainment?

it's funny you bemoan the influence of humanities types on the world: people who are taught to read the world in some way as a 'text', full of polyvalent and often contradictory meanings, with themes to be parsed and analysed, complex actors to be understood, and rarely an uncomplicatedly happy or sad ending. and yet you view the world through the space opera manicheanism of star wars or the avengers. the child who never grew up tilting at the adults with their books.

partial benefit of the doubt on this one, irt that criticism. asking if there's a different way to do something doesn't mean you don't know how to do it some other way.

i thought these guys were ai nerds though. shouldn't an ai nerd already be caught up on everything LLM?

most programs already have macro functions to do batch conversion or the like.

using an LLM-level solution to export an image as a PDF or convert a video file is nonsense. the very definition of an overengineered solution.

not to mention the increased cost in terms of energy and resources to perform a rote task. AI is energy-intensive.

haven't entry-level coders been able to write shell-type scripts or whatever to do this sort of thing since forever?

agree.

it's weird that an "expert" brought in by an ai simp to modernise office stuff or whatever has to ask about LLMs like that, but then, this meshes with these times. when you websearch something, there's a little box at the top asking if you want to ai-generate an answer, right above the list of results providing answers. in addition, "IT" people already heavily rely on google for stuff directly related to their jobs.

"~20yo not off his phone long enough to know this basic stuff" commentary does have its ring of truth sometimes, but imo it sounds more like fishing for some modern "ai-does-everything" lazy solution (again, weird he has to ask) than he can't google for file conversion stuff (again, why would the "expert" have to) or check stacks or ms help pages or even click a menu. at worst, coal-rolling anti-environmentalism looking for the most wasteful way to accomplish basic tasks for the lols, in the name of the "department of government efficiency."

keeping in mind that engineering people sometimes have really poor communication/interpersonal skills, it could also just a really badly phrased question. i'm willing to entertain that, but it doesn't really improve his case.

it's entirely in keeping with the fact that they're fucking zoomers with zero real-world experience. the star of the group, the AI papyrus guy (which, fair enough, that deserved its applause) was formerly a student at the university of nebraska. zero real-world experience. how are they going to disentangle the ratking of deprecated and legacy 1990s/2000s software used across multiple government departments? when they don't know how to convert files? having a student project in OCR algorithms isn't exactly a boon here.

prepare for much more of this sort of thing. self-appointed 'experts' using chat-GPT to govern and reform government. 'hey claude, who should i fire from this department payroll list'. this is really not the best way to tackle government bloat or inefficiency ... consulting blackbox 'oracle' LLMs. but i think it very much will be the model for 'effective' management in the near-future.

OK, so it 'real-world experience' that matters now - thats academics gone.

i am elaborating on the logic of your own argument, dipshit. if you want 'hard-headed practical people' of reason in government, then appointing a bunch of zoomers who have done nothing except an undergraduate project and worked at daddy's company is surely not a reason to applaud? and yet you seem ... happy about this?

i think academics and experts absolutely have a place in policy-making. their knowledge and background is valuable, yes. but we are discussing elon musk shutting down the federal payroll system and appointing a team of zoomers with mushroom haircuts to axe departments, much like cummings tried to find a team of 'unconventional weirdos' to dismantle whitehall. what do academics have to do with it? i think it would make much more sense, actually, to bring in a mixture of PhD'd experts in the field with a number of industry dons who are familiar with the real-world implementation and consequences of the arid theory-expertise stuff. that sounds like good technocratic governance to me.

but that is clearly not musk's game plan, is it? he's anti-experts in the same way you were advantageously 'anti-experts', rubbing your hands with glee, when populists started to have their tantrums. it’s all part of this soft-fascist, neo-reactionary crap peddled by blog-space ideologues like yarvin/moldbug or populists like bannon. educated types are part of the ‘cathedral’, the ‘deep state’, ‘the swamp’. why you indulge in such rubbish is anyone’s guess - it’s certainly not ‘rational’.

YOU are the only person obsessed with academic background beyond all else, especially when it comes to people being elected to high office in their 40s and 50s. the fuck does an undergraduate degree have to do with anything at that point? your system is an incoherent mess based mostly on personal grievance and still feeling spurned by the debonair arts types and confident hooray henrys when you were 18.

Special shout-out to the Arabs in Michigan who voted for Trump or stood out the election after Gaza. Dude literally wants to ethnically cleanse Gaza.

Also, I don't think the Arabs who voted for Trump because of Gaza are telling the truth. I think they wanted to vote for Trump because they want to feel like winners or whatever. Gaza was the excuse.
