An anti-Islamic protest has taken place outside the former mosque of two men who launched a gun attack on an earlier, similar event.

Former Marine Jon Ritzheimer, the organiser, encouraged rally attendees to demonstrate their Second Amendment rights by bringing firearms to the Phoenix Islamic Community Center during evening prayers.

"This is in response to the recent attack in Texas where two armed terrorists, with ties to Isis, attempted Jihad,” he said. “Everyone is encouraged to bring American flags and any message that you would like to send to the known acquaintances of the two gunmen.”

Hundreds of anti-Islam demonstrators showed up to the so-called rally — toting AK-47s, rifles and other firearms — screaming hate-filled speech, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.

It's funny that there aren't mass protest in NYC against Islam but Arizona and Texas feel the need to cause some issues with their Muslims. Not surprising considering their history.

Interview with the organizer of the protest starts at 2:50. He doesn't seem like a really smart man.

I'm surprised feminists don't embrace the hijab. Nothing is more egalitarian or prevents the objectification of women more. All women become equally shapeless and anonymous.

Thought about this today while waiting in line behind a veiled Muslim woman at a garden center. All the American women were wearing tank tops and the like making ogling easy.

how the fuck does a hijab prevent the objectification of women? you do realise the objectification of women doesn't just refer to sexualising them or fetishising their appearance, right? objectification means denying subjectification. if you cloak a woman in a hijab, you are denying all of her individuality; you're turning her into a PURE object. the whole point of clothing women in that way within islam isn't to make them 'equal under the eyes of god'. it's to stop other men from looking at them, and having the shameful gaze returned. it's literally a doctrine that views the woman as the sole OBJECT of her husband; human property, as faceless and exchangeable as a commodity.

Well some feminist have talked about the hijab as empowering. But I think that has mostly been a result of anti-Muslim conservatives trying to use feminism to hurt the muslims by trying to ban the hijab and veils or criticizing Islam as sexist. That is why banning them in western countries had the opposite effect of trying to integrate muslims. A lot of Muslims in western countries wear it to symbolize their culture and identity rather than for purely religious reasons. So it isn't inherently sexist in our part of the world if they aren't being forced to wear it and choose to. Especially since it attracts attention for its novelty in the west.

How do many women spend their day? They spend hours on makeup, hair, picking out the right clothing, working out etc. all so that they can appear attractive to both themselves and the world. There's a ton of pressure to look good every day. On top of this, some women are just naturally more attractive than other women, so the less attractive are dealing with an inherent handicap. A woman in a hijab doesn't have to worry about any of that. She can just be herself.

And yes, denial of individuality is absolutely true, and also the point. Leftist philosophies believe in equality, yes? What better way to level the playing field than to have everyone dress as amorphous blobs.

I think it's about a matter of choice than anything. If a woman isn't forced to wear a niqab or hijab and she chose to it would be similar to a woman wearing 'revealing' clothing or putting on excessive make up. If a woman was forced to do the latter, it would be a different story.

The hijab argument is real, the rest is obviously tongue-in-cheek. Substitute peasant blouses and long skirts if you want. A big part of hippie feminism was the rejection of societal pressure to conform. They rejected bras, makeup and form fitting clothing. As long as it's voluntary I don't see much of a difference.

many Muslim women see the attire as an assertion of their identity, and it's as much a part of the orthodoxy of the faith they believe in as any other ritual or observance. so they're not all virulently opposed to it as a symbol of oppression (some are, though; Iranians in the bigger cities see it as an affront, for example). but considering there are punishments for not wearing it under shariah law, I wouldn't exactly say it's 'voluntary'.
