Nope.
I would guess that many other more immediate and serious decisions impacted intelligence.
Just a reminder that WW1/2 account for something like ~100+ million deaths (with a wide margin of error depending on reporting). We spent a good number of decades under the threat of nuclear war, which nearly occurred on more than one occasion. If only the rest of the planet had the good sense god gave Europeans and western/westernized culture, huh? Huh?

The seasonal changes and relative wetness of Europe is believed to have been a major contributor to the fact that the Europeans carried out endless wars with one and another. Abundant harvest made campaigning and living off the land possible.
I don't think those wars had some great natural selection benefit especially by the time the World Wars rolled around. The loss of life, resources, and time from those two wars were major human intellectual setbacks. Eastern Europe still hasn't recovered.

HBO hates White people.
That's not being melodramatic. They keep taking established IP's and then Black Lives Mattering them. Happened twice. This time it was the Sopranos. Before? The Watchmen.
And also when we talk about diversity...why is it always black trauma? Why is it always black people? Tulsa Race Riot, Newark Riots...Are they going to put a flashback to Hurricane Katrina into the Last of Us? Where are the token Hispanic, Arab, and Asian characters? And can you add interesting characters from these groups without tying racism/trauma into their stories?

I get that both of those IPs were from a different time and it would be bizarre for shows to be launched with 100% white cast nowadays. But you don't need to tear something down to build others up.The new “Watchmen,” which premiered Sunday, reverses that dynamic in startling fashion, centering an African American woman, known as Sister Night, as its caped crusader protagonist, while injecting hot-button political issues — race and racism, white supremacy and police brutality against African Americans — into its main plot lines.
Even more striking, the fantastic world of “Watchmen,” with science-fiction flavored elements like flying ships and raining squid, has been merged with a story arc based on historical events, one that includes horrific images of black men and women being tortured and killed.
The opening scenes of the first episode, for instance, re-create the Tulsa, Okla., race riot of 1921, in which a prosperous African American community was savaged by angry whites, including the Ku Klux Klan. Black men are shown being dragged by cars. In a scene from a later episode, a black man is strung up, and the scene is shown from his point of view as he looks down in horror at his attackers, gasping desperately for air.
And also when we talk about diversity...why is it always black trauma? Why is it always black people? Tulsa Race Riot, Newark Riots...Are they going to put a flashback to Hurricane Katrina into the Last of Us? Where are the token Hispanic, Arab, and Asian characters? Imagine if the country and its then president didn't throw a shit fit when football players kneeled.
Yes, this was more deplorable than making a bad t.v. show. I have absolutely no interest in promoting MAGA ideology.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

black people, like native americans before them, have got organized. they have become politically savvy (although with nothing like the power and influence of the organized whites who dictate the culture). it's funny you'd characterise a people's protest as 'aggressive' when they were enslaved for hundreds of years. when they suffered segregation and official discrimination for decades. who was the aggressor in this scenario?
HBO are just catering to their main audience demographic, i.e. well-educated, middle-class liberals. it's the dictates of the market as much as 'over-aggressive uppity blacks'. for fuck's sake. imagine that the worst thing you have to complain about in your life is a 'woke' ghostbusters movie or a black superhero. get a fucking grip.

Pretty sure American Indians suffered somewhat more, and have more of a grievance against white Americans than blacks do.
Blacks are free to return to their homeland whenever they like, the same isn't true for American Indians.

it's senseless to compare suffering. 'who suffered more?' can you measure pain or trauma? maybe i've suffered more than you – so you should shut up about your problems? this is facile thinking of the utmost degree.
intergenerational trauma is a thing. suffering, poverty, discrimination, mental health crises etc. compound down through the generations. there is a great psychological load in unresolved grief or unsettled grievance; and recent empirical studies have even established that there is an epigenetic aspect to grief and suffering. it is literally physiologically inscribed in our genetic make-up.
add this to the well-established and here endlessly discussed environmental factors, the negative feedback loops and downward spirals of being in poverty, being subaltern, being the victims of discrimination, etc, and all the unhealthy and unproductive sociological dynamics that encompasses. we have been here many, many times before. poor communities stay poor; crime stalks the halls of the miserable; plenty of psychological defense mechanisms arise wherein the helpless 'don't want to help themselves'. that's what generations of ostracism will do to a community.
you continually maneuver to try and make out as if slavery, jim crow, racism, etc are all ancient history. as if they belong to the same annals of history as the extinction of the neanderthals or something. it is very real living history to a great many people. there are still living survivors and witnesses of the tulsa race massacre. your wish to deny these people their grievance is bizarre and betrays an impoverishment of your general humanity. it's your problem, not theirs.
'blacks are free to return to their homeland'. haven't you heard of liberia? there have already been several back-to-africa movements, which, for reasons mentioned above ad infinitum, wasn't the neat fix-all solution you want it to be. 'if you don't like it, go home', says every pig-faced idiot who doesn't want to acknowledge a complex situation. u r really intelligent!

We are getting away from the initial complaint here: race politics, despite however well intentioned, is being injected into media that it has no business being a part of. And it is to the detriment of that media.
The point is plenty of people have suffered but all we hear about is the blacksuziq wrote:

no, we don’t.
Not black enough? In the Heights, director Jon M. Chu’s cinematic adaptation of the 2008 Broadway smash hit, has received praise for its refreshing and multidimensional representations of the Latinx diaspora. But ever since the first trailer premiered in 2019, the film has cultivated some backlash, even prompting a public apology from its creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda. The problem: the film’s lack of dark-skinned Afro-Latinx folks in lead roles, which critics have since called out as a product of colorism and anti-Blackness in Hollywood—and in Latinx communities as a whole.
The Hispanics can't have a cool thing without also including black people.
the sopranos wasn’t partly about race politics? are you serious?SuperJail Warden wrote:

a prequel movie set during a time of huge african-american riots features a black character. newark has been variously black/jewish/italian american, right?
except in hispanic cultures there has always been a huge racial and discriminatory element between ‘spanish european’ settler types and blacks/natives. this is very much a thing in the social dynamics of many latin american and central american countries.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I deal with minorities everyday. You don't know how much I bend over to help other minorities. But between your post and now, I got cursed out by a black person when I told them to stop victimizing other people. Other minorities no less.
I am too exhausted to even have to explain the constant issues with that subset of a community. Other minorities don't give me half as much grief.
All that I am asking is that we stop Black Lives Mattering television series.
Do you think it makes me feel nice to have to watch a lecture on black history when all I wanted to do was watch a television show about the Watchmen or a mafia movie? Do you think I like being reminded of racism when I just want to watch television?uziq wrote:
