Okay, guys, what's all of your opinions on the punishment zone around the UCBs in POE2?

For those of you who don't know, if you enter the enemy UCB, you'll be punished just as if you'd gone out-of-bounds, and in addition, it comes up on everyone's screen who's being punished and who's being killed by it.  So far as I can tell, it doesn't affect aircraft (maybe I've just never been over their base long enough in one).

Now, I know that a lot of people here at BF2s are firmly in the "its war, deal with it, bitch" camp when it comes to base-rape, so how is this system sitting with you guys?

My own opinion is that it's good, I like it.  Base-rape isn't something I enjoy suffering, and I don't do it myself, cause I'm more concerned with having a fun game than winning the match (personal opinion here, if you feel otherwise, that's fine).

To finish off, here's a little tale of it not being wholly effective   I was playing on Highway to Hell as Ukraine, and whoring it up in the Frogfoot (lets hear some love for the Su-25, folks!  Give it up for that beautiful 'plane!), and realised that everytime I went back for a reload, I was getting targetted by AA.   Eventually, I figured out what was going on.  The German commander had gotten the AA-launcher pick-up, driven across the map to the Ukrainian airfield and was dropping crates on himself to keep shooting missiles at Ukrainian jets as they took off.  He never shot me down, but the AA-lock was annoying, so I took my SVD, tracked him down and shot him.  Called him a 'camping git', and he had the nerve to ask "how was that camping?".   Next time, I was watching for his buggy driving around the edge of the map and bombed the bejesus out of him...

Anyway, my point is that the punishment circle doesn't keep you wholly safe from enemy base-campers, but it helps a lot, and discourages anyone trying it in the first place.  Those of you who dislike base-rape, is this a good implementation?  Should EA have coded this in (perhaps as a server-side option)?  To those of you who enjoy a good base-rape, has the punishment circle been a problem for you?

I don't want to hear about why you think base-rape is good/bad/n00bish/whatever, just what you think of POEs system of handling it.

Its a good addition, makes more for surrounding the base and raping, lol!

They just end up shelling us instead!

Its a good implementation, and it doesn't affect planes, but everything else is susceptible to it. I like it as it will keep away most base campers and lets you at least get to some sort of a fight without dying instantly.  POE2 is about having fun, and this just helps to maintain it most of the time.

As for the shoulder AA launcher's, I love them.  A commander was nice enough to drop a crate for me in the hills.  Took out Frogfoot's, Mig's and Hind's because they kept circling the area searching for me.  Eventually someone hit me with the anti-material rifle pick up ending my spree.  This mod is the best fun I've had in ages though.

POE FTW!

its a great addition - as it means that you will always be able to mount a counter attack - if your team is not good at teamwork - or the otherside is better and you have lost all the other flags.

I don't like it - if the other team is good enough to push you back to your uncap or steal your vehicles, they should be allowed to do so.

It works for poe because of all that armor that sits in the main base.

Even though I like to baserape I don't have a problem with it...... Code it, don't ROE it.  If its built in the game as opposed to an admin kicking whoever he pleases, then it works fine.

The problem is, it does nothing to stop base rape. You can still get in a jet/eurotiger/artillery and rape the hell out of the UCBs. Yes, someone can't get in a tank and attack the UCB, but even in regular battlefield most of the time that doesn't work, 1/2 of the team just spawns with AT, and the tank ends up being the one getting raped. In fact POE just invites WORSE base rape with the artillery system.

Really, what the punishment zone does, is stop the pest people. You know, vehicle stealers, asset destroyers, and spawn snipers. Honestly, I don't see these people as a big problem in regular BF2, if anything they keep people on their toes; and if you can't deal with them then you deserve what you get (I mean it's like 1 guy, come on).

I don't really see the Punishment zone as a big postitve OR negative. I'm pretty indifferent. If anything, I'd have to say I dislike it just because it's another arbitrary limitation.

I think it's a great idea.  It takes care of the camping weenies who need a big score to make themselves feel good.  It gives the spawning team an opportunity to defend itself.  I like it.

Good, good and good.

Simply for the fact that after one team has all the flags, the game isn't over even though there are still 300 tickets left! If you've played AF's Operation Road Rage, you'll know what I mean. People spawn in early, take all the flags,  then there's nothing left to do but rape the upcap for 300 tickets. Everyone quits out and the server dies.
In PoE, the team with all the flags is forced to stick around on defence waiting for the enemy's next move. With no scan or UAV it means the other team is able to sneak around to a back base and the fun begins again!

You can still "rape" a base somewhat...just from a safe distance or the air.  As I don't care for doing that too much, I participated with a team I was on as a means of ending the match.  Usually the game went on for a while, flags getting traded back and forth, but finally we would gain the upper hand, move in on the UCB and surround it as a bunch of snipers...it worked pretty well, only a few here and there got out.  But it made for defending our flags pretty easy...the thing it did emphasize was teamwork...after we fought and capped all the flags, everyone instinctively knew it was time to surround the enemy UCB from a distance and keep them from escaping.

You can actually reach a plane and take-off without getting raped by tanks. Although artillery still has free fire into the UCB. But on the other hand, not many people actually know how to use the artillery.

I gotta say I am a proponent of "If you're pushed back to your UCB, you deserve it" theory, but that said it can get too much sometimes. I like the POE punishment system because, whilst you can still fly a jet/chopper over the UCB, you can't do THAT much before either being shot down or running out of ammo. POE ftw.

Sure I agree totally in this respect. The problem is when the people with fast computers (me ) spawn in a take all the flags before the other team has a chance to finish loading. Alternatively, when you join a game to find out your team's useless and has been pushed back to the uncap - then it's spawn, get camped, quit, server dies.

Sounds like an excellent idea.  I'm going to download POE 2 today and will hopefully be on line tonight or tomorrow.

Excellent. Only thing I miss about going into UCB though is stealing equipment. All those pretty helos, and not a one for me. Unless the server has the Dome of Doom turned off.

Hey skuko

I've not seen any chatter about us running POE on the server, but they have talked about all joining the same POE server somewhere and getting some games going.

I reckon it'd be awesome: I've not touched vanilla BF2 for a week now, because POE has taken up all my time!

Yeh agree: I have a fast machine which gets me into maps before anyone else, so I know what it's like to around capping stuff before the enemy have even got their boots on.

Overall, POE ftw. No doubt.

yay, PoE2 ftw. It is a server option, and a good one. As has been said before, it encourages teamplay and effective defense, and the game will usually stay live and not die when one team has all the flags and the other team gets discouraged and disconnects. I have had that happen in BF2, and it ain't fun. Even those who would be willing to continue in such a situation mostly cannot, because half of their team will simply quit once the game has reached that point.

I also like the fact that they made it a server option, so every server owner can decide for himself if he likes it.

Code it, don't RoE it ! A concept EA can't understand, but the makers of PoE2 can..

Yes true, but in Point of Existance the Anti-air guns are infinitly more effective at shooting down enemy jets and helicopters than the ones in vanilla BF2

Yeah but read the following quote

Sometimes you have no way of stopping such rapages because
1)the enemy overwelmes your team, though you try your hardest
or
2) your team swaps sides or quits when you start to bleed tickets
or
3)you join after one of the above mentioned occurs
So it helps the ones (that the above happens to) fight more effectivly or with even stay alive 1 minute after spawning depending on the ammount of rapage that the enemy applies.
