Ok, I took some notes from the last couple of threads that came through and I have to say... some of those downright sucked.

I'm looking for GOOD beer. Nothing from the USA. I know all the decent USA beers I need to know (yes there are some, and the west coasters know this well ).

Ales, Lagers, IPA's, Imperials.. etc

None of this water with concentrated hoppes flavor added. Something full bodied and tasteful that I can appreciate the taste of. Nothing to just get shitfaced off of. I have hard liquor for that.

So please...

I'm calling out the people of Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Give me some reccomendations that fit the bill. I have a local shop that carries a variety of foreign brands. I just need to know which are good. (I'd rather not sample them all though I may have to )

OOOOhhh baby I am going to like this thread

I assume you already know the standard imports like Guinness, Boddington's, Harp, Kilkenny, Smithwicks, Stella Artois, Tsing Tao and Sapporo. If not I'd suggest any one of those.

One really good one is called Hue Beer, its from Vietnam and it tastes crisp and clean like Stella Artois but is a lot cheaper. But it is hard to find. Try Chinatown.

Another one I am really loving these days is Murphy's Irish Stout, which is a dark stout like Guinness but with a coffee/chocolate aftertaste. Amazing. It is quickly becoming my favorite beer. Up here is Canada you can only find it on draft in bars but my buddy in NYC says they sell it in cans like Guinness or Kilkenny.

If I think of anything else I'll edit this post.

EDIT #1: I forgot about Hoegaarden. Awesome white beer. White beer rules. Try it with a lime.

That Murphy's sounds good... definately gonna add that to the list.

If anyone who responds could describe the flavors, that'd be much appreciated.

Thanks for all the ones so far

Currently have a glass of Beck's in my hand... and to be honest I'm not that impressed with it.

It's far better than American economy beer, I'll give it that... just aint doing for me though.

If you like bitters:

London Pride (Fullers - actually any bottle by them!) www.fullers.co.uk
Anything from the Badger Brewery particularly tanglefoot and golden glory www.badgerbrewery.com

many more English bottled beers I could recommend. NEVER BUY BEER IN CANS

Anything by Rogue or Black Butte.

Those keep me more than occupied. My personal favorite is Rogue Hazlenut Brown Nectar.

EDIT:: Prolly shoulda clarified Microbrews, rather than just the more vague term "beer".

tooheys extra dry platinum is a favourite of mine. u just cant beat a smooth tasty 6.5% brew but i doubt ur bottle shop would have it. i think its only for aussies. but stella artois is a personal favourite of mine along with coronas. those three r all good choices

Some of my favourite lagers:

Efes from Turkey
Nastro Azzurro Peroni from Italy
Tiger Beer from Asia

The only one I struggle to get is Efes, only ever had it in Turkish restaurants. Incidentally its the best lager I've ever had.

Nothing beats a cold glass of Heineken....or a bottle Corona !!!
if you like belgian ales..

st. bernadus
Trappistes Rochefort 8
fullers for a stout

youll have to go to a big city/class liquor store to get em tho

I'm personally not so picky theres lots of microbreweries in the USA that make good beer.

You can get this at most groceries

Ooh man if you don't like Beck's then forget about Boddington's, Harp, Smithwicks, Stella Artois, Tsing Tao, Sapporo and Hue Beer.

Try Guinness or Kilkenny, they are ok from the can but on tap are wayyyyy better.

If you have never tasted them Guinness is a dark beer with an earthy taste but it is very smooth with low fizz.

Kilkenny is a brown colored beer with a creamy foam, very smooth tasting, also low fizz.

And Hoegaarden is a white beer, it has a slightly sweeter taste than other beers, which is why the lime is good the acid cuts some sugar and compliments the flavour well.

If you are looking for something other than the "standard" taste of beer like Beck's I would recommend you go darker like Guinness or Kilkenny, or lighter like Hoegaarden. And before anyone flames me I did not mean anything negative by saying Beck's tastes standard. Personally I love Beck's it is one of my favorite beers.

Also up here in Canada we have two interesting tasting beers, brewed up here. One is called Rickard's Red. It is a red colored beer, slightly sweet. It is insanely popular, especially on tap.

The other is Sleeman's Honey Brown. This is a premium domestic beer. It is a brown beer but with a touch of honey for a very interesting sweetness. I don't know if either of these is imported into the U.S.

Happy drinking.

I definately agree, but sometimes it's fun to dig a bottle out of the fridge from somewhere far away.

Does Guinness sell anything but canned? I tried a can of it (poured into an iced pint glass) and I have to say I was impressed with it for being a canned beer. Tasted even better with a small bar of chocolate as a snack with it.

Do they sell it by the bottle? or is it strictly draft and canned?

Yes and to me Budweiser is one part Heineken and one part sewage waste. Heineken in its turn is one fifth Stella and 4 fifths dirty dish water. :-|

My 2 current favorites are:

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Newcastle Brown Ale

Still can't beat my own homebrewed Spanish Red Ale or my Toadspit Stout though.  I've got a 14 gallon carboy that I try to keep in the rotation.  Anybody else here homebrew?

I like the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout from Nigeria...  That stuff is pretty lethal at 7.5%... only comes in bottles that I'm aware of.  There are other ones from different places too, but I like the Nigerian one... haven't drunk it for a while though.

I tried Peroni Gran Riserva recently, recommend that if you can get it.
