It's a decent mod, but just that: Decent. Mod.

Fallen is ace fun but gets boring very fast as there is nothing but trees - nothing at all to break it up.  Spawn, flank enemy flag, get fragged, spawn, rinse and repeat.  The atmosphere in that map is incredible but the action begins to drag after a couple of rounds.

All the other maps seem to be pretty standard BF2 mod maps.  Well designed in the whole and good looking, but massively vehicle heavy, and far, far, too big (even with all the vehicles I think they're too sprawling).  The flags are way too far apart and therefore the battles are too - this is a particular drag due to the high ticket counts I've seen on most servers so far.

I do like the mod but I think it's being very much overhyped.  I'm going to put some time in with it, but probably only until 1.4 arrives for vanilla and then I'll switch back.

Theres always action, big battles too, and theyre not far away.  Play on 64 person servers that are filled, youll see some good action on most maps

Its a good blast, I hant played an hour or so with buddies, I am a big SF fan, so it would have to have a bit more action, I agree the maps spread apart but its a cool fewe rounds of this then back to SF, but it will take up more of my time then BF..

To me, it's decent. I'm usually a groundpounder so I'm not too big on the maps (except Fallen of course, which is probably my favorite BF2 map ever). I guess if I get used to sitting at spawn points waiting for tanks instead of going out to help my team, I'll enjoy it more. I do like how the maps are more open than vanilla BF2, with rolling hills and mountains that you can actually climb. Having the RPG-7 instead of SRAW/ERYX also makes taking out vehicles even more difficult for ground troops. It also feels like armor takes more hits to destroy with AT rockets than in vanilla BF2, something that the game mechanics definitely did not need. I do like the fact that small-arms accuracy seems based more on recoil than on minimum deviation - if you keep your aim steady, your bullets will hit where you're aiming instead of flying everywhere because they have to go a certain distance from your crosshairs.

Why does a transport chopper have rockets?

I was playing Fallen last night and went something like 65-9; I guess those people aren't used of groundpounding

I can only find two servers, one in Australia, and the other is almost always full

For BF2 and SF it takes me 3 - 4 minutes top to go from clicking the shortcut on my desktop to playing on a server.  For POE it will take me 3 - 4 minutes just to load a map.  Anybody else have this issue.  Just an observation.

Please stay away from the get more RAM response (I have 1 gig and I know that I need more).

okies what u should do is the following scratch

okies first navigate to your >> mydocuments/yourname/bf2 folder and click the following and DELETE the contents

CASHE
LOGOCASHE

and mebe DMP - but wiat out on that one as i havnt checked it ..

then go into PROFILE .. find your online account named one - most probs 001 or 2 ..

to check - look inside the profile.con (open with notepad)
when u have found it then open GENERAL.CON - and scroll down to where it says :

GENERALSETTINGS.ADDSERVERHISTORY

you can delete all the lines which start with the above.and SAVE

then go to DEMOBOOKMARKS.CON - and delete all the contents. and SAVE

THe above should help with your loading times - both getting into bf2/poe2 and also getting onto maps.

Played my first 2 rounds last night and what can i say it was insane!  The second round went better as i was getting used to the different weapons and equipment and I managed to squad up with someone i knew but I'd never seen such frantic action.

I was wary about playing a mod after playing some Half life single player mods years ago, they all followed a similar plot to hl1, had the same structure, same sound samples etc and were quite dull.  However the amount of work that has gone in to poe is incredible.

edit:
After reading various threads where people are complaining that this or that isn't as good as the version of bf2 made by ea/dice for thousands(possibly more) of dollars with larger teams of people hired purely to make these games I'd like to thank the poe team.

I'm assuming you guys work in your own time to bring us a great game like this for free. It's got more content that the booster packs as far as I can tell.  Keep up the good work.

I've been playing POE2 since it came out. I've come back to BF2 for the patch 1.4 to see if it's any better. Played about 3 hours of Road to Jalalabad and then quit and went back to POE2. Simply put I can't play BF2 anymore. It just pales in comparison. That's only my opinion.

After playing PoE2 for several hours, I pretty much have to say "meh."

The maps themselves are pretty awesome, good terrain design, new buildings, Fallen's tree thing is really fun. For awhile, anyway. But the heavy vehicle load on most of the maps quickly becomes nuts, and everyone is playing spec ops, AT, or engineer. I don't think I saw a single medic outside Fallen.

The commander limitations are rather extreme, too. Spotting is OK, of course, but not having anything else to do besides drop ten million supply crates quickly makes it boring. Sure, you can fight, too, but I want commander powers. I don't really understand some of the biases against the UAV. It's a tactical support option that both sides have and is useful, not overpowering. Kind of keeps the Rambos in check, too.

As for my favorite vehicles (helicopters) I liked the two new guns for the pilot, but having to switch with the mouse wheel is kind of annoying. Same for the gunner, who can't use right-click to switch weapons. Plus, replacing the TV missiles with heat seekers seems a bit lame, as TVs required some experience and skill to operate, whereas heat seekers are mostly luck. Also, the Hind seems to have some major maneuverability issues when attempting to fly backwards.

The deadliness of some vehicles is rather crazy, too, especially the AA vehicle I tried out. Capable of downing a chopper in apparently four shots, it also has ridiculously powerful explosive rounds that transform infantry into clam chowder. This is just not right, in my opinion.

Anyway, it's a mod with potential, but I don't see myself playing it much unless it gets a major overhaul. Not with the new super awesome Jalalabad map around, anyway!

Oh, one other thing! Grenades. I find it odd that soldiers are no longer equipped with grenades, which are rather standard issue most of the time.

Got a weird glitch yesterday while playing PoE. I had joined a server, spawned on my squad leader, just got killed as I spawn (>_> whatever), then I respawned, took the nearest vehicle, made my way through the forest to enemy's east most flag, looked at the scores, and saw I had -270 team score !!!!

EDIT: I guess many more people came up with the same problem. The blast radius and damage to infantry from A.A vehicles and implacements is being reduced in an up-coming patch.
