I quite like my spaces sims.

Ever since the original x wing and tie fighter games.

Some of my favourites have been, most of the wing commander series, Xwing vs Tie fighter, freelancer, X2 and X3 and loads of others.

So what are some of your favourite space sims? And also can anyone recommend me a space sim similar to X3 where you get the freedom to do whatever you want it in.

Thanks everyone!

Elite games, end of story
Anyone else who says different hasn't played them
The next closest thing are the X games - X2 the threat + X3

the first x i tried was x3 but it crashed every 5 minutes, granted i use a laptop, but it's a very well equipped alien and i havent had issues hardware wise with any othe games, of course i didn't have the net at home at the time and couldn't upload patches, maybe i'll try it again, it was just so frustrating starting over and over and over and over

the w-qing series was easily the best, i like alliance for having the broadest ship/faction spectrum, but it was great being a bad guy in tie fighter

colony wars for the PS1 is fun, but the best so far is Descent Freespace FTW!

I don't know. I'm not exactly a Trekkie fan, but Starfleet Command 3 was pretty good (played at a friends) and the up-coming Star Trek: Legacy (time travelling ftw!) looks pretty amazing too. Never really got into Star Wars games and I should try the X series.

Well u see, I was into X3, but it has a few majors flaws that tend to piss you off in the later stages of the game.

Bassically I played it for weeks building up money stations and ships only to find out that the control interface for commanding your fleet is a joke and the AI is totally crap, made me quit.

Are those Elite games similar to teh X series of games then? I do like the sound of another space sim where you can build up your own fleet, etc.

The best game is Noctis, get it here http://www.acid-play.com/download/noctis/

It lets you explore any star you want and you can even land on the orbiting planets! Each planet is also different, some have life on them! Very nice sim.

wing commander was great. i first played it oddly enough on sega cd. was a good port of the orignal

in 96 i played part III. was awesome..and all the rest of them, prohecy 4 or 5? was a big deal in the graphics department at the time. was a good one

i would like to see a new wing commander game that is MMO

that would be sweet

privateer was good alsoand all the the ones u listed

still have my wing commander games=) might try to install them .

oh and who couldnt forget X wing. i remeber watching my friends dad play that in like 92 or 93 on his computer, with the Uber IBM label and underneath monitor powerstrip ll. and being in awe at how cool a computer game seemned...didnt own a puter then.

although i have to say rogue squadron was really fuckin good and the graphics are still not bad at all, and gameplay owns
