Either way, it's a tool of the Devil. ...and a cheap place to buy Kibble.
Every Petco I've ever been in was a terrible place for live critters. That being said, Pet Smart is only slightly better in my area. It's not surprising though, as you've got people that couldn't handle a food industry job trying to take care of living things. Most don't care, don't know what they're doing, and don't mind staying that way. IMO, it's like buying your pets at WalMart. You wouldn't do that would you? Please say no.
Support you local mom and pop reptile/fish stores (as long as they're taking good care of the stock). They're far more likely (not 100% of the time though) to know what they're talking about and help you with questions and concerns. For furry pets, please consider you local pound/shelter.
