Right now theres just under 2,000 people online playing.
Go here to see how many are online at any given time. (top right corner)
Personally I haven't played it online in well over a year... maybe even 2.

Install 1.6 full and the 1.61 incremental.

Biggest mod... I don't know but I'd guess it's either Desert Combat (DC) or ForgottenHope (FH).
FH was my favorite easily, even better than 1942 in my opinion.

they should have kept self propelled guns and manual artillery in BF2. that was the shit back in the day.

Go to Ghetto Berlin - No Explosives.

I go there sometimes.  I still play because my old clanmates are there.

Yes, and no. There was almost always a smacktard that would get in first position while you're trying to line it up, and move you around, but if you got someone good, and a tardless team, you could do some damage. The manual arty was limited by mountains, and buildings, while the arty in BF2 goes straight up, and straight down... Which seems odd. But over all, I think that commander arty was an improvement.
