So I'm reading an article on the Haaretz website and this feedback comment from a reader catches my eye...

Some Haaretz reader wrote:

I will happily listen to Israelis justify the IDF military action, because they are entitled to their opinions. Whether or not we agree, they have earned their right to these opinions, and if there is ever to be peace, it will come from an exchange of words, not gunfire.

But if there is one thing that I cannot bear to listen to anymore, it is the lunatic ravings of America`s Walmart evangelicals, that horde of pimple-faced mall rats raised on Cheerios and Top Gun that discovered the "Left Behind" series a few years ago, and now believes that the Mideast conflict spells some kind of cosmic doomsday scenario. Do us all a favor and go back to your NASCAR and your Bibles.

If I were an Israeli, I would think twice about courting this lobby of supposedly "friendly" American Christians. The world Jewry fits into their vision of the end of days, but you have a sinister role to play, to say the least.
I've never read a "Left Behind" book but I gather they're all about Rapture and such.  Anyway, I'd be interested to hear some views on this person's comment and how it relates to the current situation in Israel and Lebanon in your view.

work in customer service in any capacity.  Humanity will never again surprise you with it's ability to sabatoge itself and put on a generally pathetic representation of itself.

Granted, some people's support of Israel is based on non-religious hatred of Arabs.  Anything to say about the comment, though?

Okay, hows this; American religous people are for the most part ignorant and I don't give a shit what they think.

Fair enough.  It's a bit too sweeping for me to fully agree personally (yeah I know, how will you sleep tonight? ), but staying on topic, do you think they're a more influential group with regards to US policy in the Middle East than say, American Jews, both observant and secular?

Edit: for spelling errors.

Because that was a perfectly not racist post?

Regardless, what examples do you have of negotiations?

Why is it so bad all of a sudden to be religious? It teaches you right from wrong and gives you many life lessons. I would rather be religious than some douche who thinks life is all about nothingness.

Maybe you should take this up with ATG in another thread.  Either that, or address the very specific aspects of religion referred to in the OP.

I don't think these are the only two options.  Being agnostic, I believe the question of life's meaning is most likely beyond my understanding, and possibly human understanding in general.  Does that make me a douche?

Agnostics are different than people who go around doing what feels good regardless of morals. As long as you live your life in a good way than I could care less what you believe in.

I do agree that some born again people are odd. Some guy asked me how "spiritually" old I was, but for the most part religious people are just as smart, if not more, as the regular person.

Sure, but do you think somebody can have morals without religion?  Or religion without morals?  I think they're both possible.  But that's no reason to dog religion in general, IMO.

Anyway, this is all off topic.  Have you read any of the Left Behind books?  Do you think there's an "End Times" angle to the conflict in the Middle East?

Edit: Wrote the above before I saw your comment about the spiritually "old" question.  LOL.

There are many reasons to "dog" religions, its created more pain & suffering in the name of God on this world since they began, than anything else on the world.
It's time for us to grow up & put away the crutch, as for the persons views I can see his frustration on people talking out their arse & having no idea what they are talking about because it is based on TV or a fiction book or rumor.

On a side note since the beginning of time people have said its the end times & the sky is falling & such.

How could Walmart sell evangelism???  Evangelism would have to be made of plastic because China only makes things of plastic and Walmart only sells stuff made in China.

Are you suggesting that Evangelism is made of plastic???  This is all I got out of the readers letter, well that and that people who like NASCAR hate jews which would mean that Muslims like NASCAR...... shit I'm all confused now.

Please discuss....

I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian household, and I rejected the faith based upon common sense instincts and historical research.
I learned my sense of right and wrong based on the same core quest for knowledge and success.
You don't get far in life being an asshole and screwing people over.

Oslo Accords?

The Jews agreed to give back land for ( oh, fuck this is asking SO much ) the right to exist.
As soon as they left the militants began launching rockets thinking they had won some sort of military victory.
They have said openly they are ready for war.
Its going to be MUCH worse for them than it is for us.
The West will not allow insane Muslim fanatic governments to have nukes  BECAUSE THOSE STUPID FUCKERS WILL USE THEM.
Do you under stand that https://i1.tinypic.com/20789kx.jpg? I didn't think so.

I look at evangelical christianity as a disease.  It wouldn't be half as bad if these nut cases kept their views to themselves, but part of the evangelical doctrine is forcing it's 18th century social values on the rest of the country (witness that asshole Pat Robertson and his evil tv channel).  Out here on the left coast it isn't so bad but you can still feel their influence because *SUPRISE* they're running the country.

Evangelicalism is the reason:

10 commandments in courtrooms, protecting "under god" in the pledge of allegiance, trying to force creationism into school, beating down abortion, and all other extraneous bullshit takes up more time in Congress and state legislatures than serious issues (the bomb-crater called the middle east, trade deficiets, growing welfare and social security problems).

I'm what you'd call non-religious.  I base my morals on a number of factors; the practicality of getting along with others, and whether I'd be comfortable having done to me what I'm doing to others are two BIG parts of it.  Though I'm not at all christian, my morals have quite a bit in common with "common" christian morals; don't steal, murder, cheat on your wife/gf or go after someone else wife/gf etc...

My moral code is quite "ten commandments" in nature actually, barring those commandments which require belief in god, of course.

Actually I was curious enough to look them up...5 though 10 are sweet...4 (sunday = holy day) is kinda because well I'll be recovering from a hangover (which I'm currently working on, go bourbon!!!) and will want it to be a peaceful day!  The first three aren't really relevent.

Alexander:  Your the one who clearly fails to understand that from their point of view, any land owned by Zionists is occupied territory.  They don't want to kill them all, they want them to leave.  Failing that, they're happy to kill them all.  Same as the Israelis seem happy to kill all Muslims.

And I think the mods will get upset with you sucking up bandwidth if you keep using that picture.  Particularly since there are too many "o"s

There cant be any examples when the terrorist states wont even consider debate nor negotiations. They have flat out refused to negotiate. Alls they had to do is release the two soldiers and that ONE step would have brought on Atleast something. So These terrorists will hold on to two lives and sacrifice Thousands because they have an agenda thats backed by syria and Iran!
