So I'm reading an article on the Haaretz website and this feedback comment from a reader catches my eye...
I've never read a "Left Behind" book but I gather they're all about Rapture and such. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear some views on this person's comment and how it relates to the current situation in Israel and Lebanon in your view. Some Haaretz reader wrote:
I will happily listen to Israelis justify the IDF military action, because they are entitled to their opinions. Whether or not we agree, they have earned their right to these opinions, and if there is ever to be peace, it will come from an exchange of words, not gunfire.
But if there is one thing that I cannot bear to listen to anymore, it is the lunatic ravings of America`s Walmart evangelicals, that horde of pimple-faced mall rats raised on Cheerios and Top Gun that discovered the "Left Behind" series a few years ago, and now believes that the Mideast conflict spells some kind of cosmic doomsday scenario. Do us all a favor and go back to your NASCAR and your Bibles.
If I were an Israeli, I would think twice about courting this lobby of supposedly "friendly" American Christians. The world Jewry fits into their vision of the end of days, but you have a sinister role to play, to say the least.
