So, if a life has been mandated to be so null of redeemable qualities that it is to spend out the rest of it's existence in a cell, should we even maintain that existence? Why / why not? Discuss.

We both being from Indy....need to implement the Ron White remark about putting in an express lane for death row. Personally......I dont want to pay taxes for some piece of shit sitting in an 8x8 cell up in Pendelton if hes going to be there for 110 years. Now if they are eligible for parole...let em live it out. But if its one of those "I blew up the state house and went on a shooting spree" type of people who have no chance of parole.....just get it over with.
I agree, I mean if there's a chance they'll be acquitted, then be a little lighter handed. Otherwise, end it and end it efficiently, not after 25 years of more appeals and drawing the whole thing out.
How does this sound?
A 25 year old man rapes, and kills your 15 year old daughter. He is arrested, but only after fighting off police. In the process of fighting off the police, he kills a 45 year old single mother of 3. He is given a life sentence.
Would you honestly want that pathetic piece of shit to have the easy way out, and get the death sentence. Or would you want him to spend the next 60 years or so behind bars, without seeing a ray of sunshine.
I know what I'd want

easy way out or no, I'd prefer his existence no longer be a function of my taxes. I'd rather give someone the "easy way out" then pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to sustain their existence. Prison has gotten rather posh ... anal raping aside.
If said rapist got let out of prison early, I'd hunt him down and execute him.
Life sentence is silly. It's basically a prolonged death sentence.
Death sentence is pretty silly too. It's more like anxiety sentence, since before you actually get executed you spend 20 years sitting in a jail cell. I mean, wtf? Does it take that long to kill the guys infront of the person? Just take them outside and blow their brains out. Cheap, effective, quick.
EDIT: Yeah I know about appeals, I'm talking about the guys who admit to being clinically sane while doing their crime and who admit to doing the crime.

I would like for him to get some ass kickings in jail first.....but Id rather not pay for it really. I want him to get his ass handed to him...but Ill let hell deal with thatpuckmercury wrote:

No what I hate the most is that prisoners can get all sorts of magazines while in prison.
I being from indy too, think that we should just close off the area surrounding 38th and post road and call that the prison. Because nearly every night one will hear of a murder or other violent crime from that area.
I am all for the death penalty and I am glad that Indiana has it.

dude.....probably 75% of 38th could be sectioned off for that lmao
studies have shown it costs way more money to keep someone on death row and then execute them than it does to just keep them in normal general population in jail, so the money point is kinda moot. however, that's not to say i wouldn't be in favor of a quicker, more efficient death sentence. the problem is, i'm not sure i think the risk that a government could kill an innocent person is worth the risk of the death penalty. this is one of those issues that's become much more complicated for me as i've gotten older. i think it would be kinda interesting to see how old you are along with what your views on the death penalty are. i'm 23. i know when i was 15 i would've said "fuck it, kill em all and kill em fast."
the only bad thing is that my dad works right off of post road in that area.

There are some nasty areas of government housing on 38th.

I am 21......so your age old wisdom is not much older than mine
If I had a choice of getting the needle of eternity or life in prison w/o a chance of parole - I'd rather have the needle stuck in my ass rather than my new husband sticking me in the ass for the rest of my life.
Giving them a choice!!!! That would make sense but then some mindless liberal would say it's inhumane
Kaboom.

Yeah, we really should just raize that section to the ground ...{BMF}*Frank_The_Tank wrote:

I agree with you kuntpunch that the death sentence is poorly handled now. It needs to be much more efficient. I wasn't really trying to argue in favor or against the present bureucracy surrounding it, just the idea in principle.
I am 26. You know what? I do think the risk of an innocent death is worth it. I am a spiritual individual, albeit not religious (there IS a HUGE difference). As such, if the individual is truly innocent and a good person, they'll be going to a far better place than this sad excuse of an existence anyway - and certainly a better existence than would be granted by life in prison.
I passed that today, and on occasions. Drive up post to get to campus sometimes....I actually once saw some guy riding a horse across 38th, crossed traffic, took off down 38th toward Keystone once by the fairgrounds....and believe me....you know the 38th area...and this guy shouldnt have been on a horse...The_Mob_Returns wrote:

really was kinda odd....but yet entertaining at the same time to see

but if they're indeed innocent, it's possible that their innocence can be proven and be released. that's not something that works well posthumously. and i'm not trying to say i'm some sage or any shit like that. i'm just saying that as i've gotten older, my views have changed a lot. i'd say i'm still pro-death penalty, but i think the issue is extremely complicated. it seems ironic that a government can choose to end the life of someone in response to their own killing. but, if someone really close to me was murdered, i'd want to see the asshole fry. *shrugs* i just don't really know.
I understand that the appeal process is an important part of our legal system but personally, the amount it costs to keep a person in jail is too high. Maybe if we could lower the costs to keep prisoners in jail ( and build more jails so that rapists do not get out early) then I would be more in favor of keeping the life.
I do like the idea that Kabbom brought up about giving them a choice. That would be interesting.
I am thinking like 5' x 5' foot cells and just give them food twice a day. Put hole in the ground for a toilet and let them rot for the remainder of their sentence. Yeah, it may sound harsh but they kind of deserve it. I dont know, just some of my thoughts.
I am 17 by the way.

Ok, just so you guys understand, not every guy in jail fucks other guys up the arse in there. It happened a few times and then rumours were made that in every jail, the same shit happened. It still happens, but certainly not as much as you guys think...AAFCptKabbom wrote:

I'm sure you're right about that, but I maintain that living conditions are over all too posh and should be cut back and a more expedient death penalty put into place.
That's what I meant when I said my earlier post. Give them a tiny arse room, no windows, crappy food only a couple times a day. Two cups of water a day. A horse blanket for a pillow or a sheet-they choose what it is to be. And a hole in the ground for a toilet.The_Mob_Returns wrote:

Now if people say that's 'inhumane', I say, 'So raping isn't?'
I agree with ya, if someones innocense can be proven, good for them and ill be glad they are released...so its definately a touchy subject....hence one reason I am not, and do not ever plan to be a government decision making official lol.kuntpunch_37 wrote:

lol, what is this, philosophy hour?
i sure as shit don't want to go to jail, though. when i was touring a jail with a group of kids from my high school, they had an inmate panel and a 6'5", 300 pound black dude told us "round here, mans be having sex with other mans..." my 5'10" 160 pound cracker ass would be in trouble in there.dhoar4 wrote:

Riiiight. There's like, this whole part of the forum where big people come and talk big people talk. Sadly, it rarely stays that way because some moron (not you) comes in and just starts flaming people rather than attacking ideas ... but alas, we perservere.
