the F-18's are so technological in spite of their age, that the pilot just grabs two "oh shit" handles on the canopy and holds on while the jet and the carrier launch it automatically
it's a shame their retiring the F-14 this september, I never got to see one in flight, they had to be the baddest ass fighters of the 20th century

whats even gayer to all pilots out there (im not one but i know how they feel) is that UAV fighters MAY (i didnt say will) replace manned jets. Pilots will hate this....

these are some guys with real skillz.
it's been going around for a while, hell they started the planning in the 60's, but they got to the point where they needed 25 hours of maintenance for each hour of flight, but that still doesn't detract from the amount of firepower combined with the maneuverability that bigass beast was capable of, when loaded with phoenix missiles it could take out another target from 100 miles off! a carrier full of toms could turn an entire time zone into sovereign US airspace
military.com has some good footage, including one of a 14 doing a low alt pass next to a carrier (and I mean right next to the flight deck) with an inverted f-18 tucked in between it's tail fins, you have to get a password, but trust me, the footage they have on their site is worth it, more than a few tomcat clips
