Classic, table-top battletech. Longest game I have ever played, picked it up at around age 16, and still ocassionally break out the figs and slaughter some friends hehe.

i moved in with this dude i worked with for a couple weeks after i got evicted from my apartment
long story short he played warhammer and one night he asked me to come with him. i had no idea what i was getting myself into and what ensued was a nightmarish journey into extreme dorkdom from which im still scarred today. the only reason id ever go back is to kill them all to make sure they never procreate.
another fun story was when he tried to get me to play dungeons and dragons becuase you could pick up hookers. those games are the height of nerdiness heres what these folks do when they arent playing that shit.

I admit, I did when I was Twelve and Thirteen. I collected Warhammer Lizardmen. Had a decent collection too. They were so fucking expensive, $30 for a five centimeter high bit of metal, an then you had to assemble it and paint it... ugh.
Plus, just when I had enough to create a decent army, (points wise,) they changed the rules. They made everyone of my units worth less points. This meant to get my target of a 2000 point army, I had to buy more of their crap. They made it sound all cool, "now your army will look bigger and cooler," but what they really meant was "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!"
Admittedly I couldn't afford a lot of Games Workshop stuff so I er... I stole a lot of it. I had a stolen Kroxigor and a stolen Terradon among other things. They brought it on themselves though I reckon.

Haven't played since they stopped making for the hobby and started making it for the money. Used to have Eldar for 40K, Empire and High Elves for Warhammer and Escher for Necromunda. Haven't played in 8 years or so.

GW are a business and do have to increase their prices from time to time, but I do sympathise with your comment. It is now a very expensive hobby to get into and they target young kids for their new business. As a result, the majority of new players are kids who have perfected the "whine" required to convince their parents to buy the stuff and unfortunately they carry it over into the game.

Yeah it does!! And thats the other problem, meeting new players was another reason i haven't played in years. Most of them were 6 and would cry if you slaughtered them.

Couple things that took all i had not to laugh right in their faces..
When they start dude has a bigass piece of plywood for the "board" and a bucket of rocks, they rolled who got to choose who gets what rocks to use for "cover?" One dude threw a fit cuz he didnt get the rock he wanted.
Another was this fat dudes little celebration dance when he got some apparently badass roll of the dice and "killed" some little metal guy
