If I catch another attack chopper or little bird I usually try to quietly get behind them to get the jump on em... If I can take their health down 1/3 before they even are able to turn around/return fire, I usually win... unless I'm also recieving fire from the ground.

If you're going face to face with another littlebird the only thing I do is just fire, fire, fire... it's hard to out-evade another littlebird pilot before he takes you down to critical health when you're both facing/firing at each other. One thing I do if he has passengers is shoot for them first, free kills...

I can normally out-evade attack choppers long enough for me to kill them. The most dangerous attack choper is the MI-28 with a gunner... those damn ballistic missiles will eat you apart, but away from that the dumb misses and Apache/Chinese gun aren't that bad.

It's also very hard to hit a moving littlebird with a TV missle... so if I'm
up in the air with an enemy attack chopper and an enemy littlebird I'll usually take out the littlebird first... but this is a risky situation.

Also, I noticed that I get a lot better scores on Harvest and Midnight, Road Rage is just too damn long... after you get to a flag and you take damage or die, its a really long flight back to or away from the pad.  It helps a lot to fly as an engineer so you can land/repair or to request supplies in some abandon field to serve as a home away from home (or pad away from pad if you will); I also mark these boxes with "repair here" so I can easily find them again.

If you're flying with the little scout choppers try playing as 3 man squad. The pilot as medic, one engineer and one support. The engineer can not only repair you during flight and especially dogfights with other scout choppers or attack choppers, no he can even drop an unlimited amount of mines (5 at once of course) due to the support guy and therewith eliminate armored threats like tanks, apc's and aa vehicles.

As for dogfights with attack choppers - always remember that you're not as fast as an attack chopper, but you got higher maneuverability. So your target it to either get behind or to the side of the attack chopper and circle strafe him. The attack chopper goes down in a rush.

If you're engaging an other scout chopper it's all about who get's the first shot and got support by an engineer.

If i'm engaging both an attack chopper and a scout chopper i agree with your tactic and attack the scout chopper first - it's the more dangerous threat with it's fast firing gun.

My oppinion about the three AF maps - Road Rage is pretty boring no matter what you do, if you're flying in a plane you're just flying circles - if you're sitting in a tank you get bombed by a plane - if you want to fly the scout chopper you have to either wait ages to get it or teamkill.

Operation Harvest is pretty good, i think it's by far the best AF map - in an attack chopper you can have a lot of fun there because you get the moments where just 7 enemy armor vehicles are driving in a convoy and just waiting for you to kill them all with the TV missile.

I totally love the Littlebird and the other two choppers. Great vehicles. The only gripe I have is that they seem to flip over easily.

I agree, but there is a learning curve with that.  I haven't flipped in a while.

And I agree with you Fierce, Harvest is the best AF map... and currently my favorite BF2 map (I'm sure I'll get tired of it).  There are so many routes to go to every flag, unlike Midnight where it is so damn narrow that you cannot snipe because you'll be spotted within a matter of minutes, unless you find a spot on a roof near the PLA's  uncap.

The worst part about Harvest is that MEC doesn't have an uncap, but I have never been in a round that MEC lost their airfield and was unable to get it back within a period of 5 minutes... it's nothing like Sharqi's TV station.  Also, I find Tung's and Linebackers to be a helluva more problem on Road Rage then Harvest, Midnight isn't that bad for AA either, because you can easily escape down the cavern flying close to the water.

what i try to do is when in attack chopper is to tv them the moment i see them. they seem to be pretty easy to hit. And if you fail back off until the missile reload and try again. Been downed like twice but i shot down like 20.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Well yeah you can avoid flipping over but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

With the AH-1Z/Mi-28/Z-10 i can land full speed and be very comfy knowing i won't die, flipover and what not. With the recons you really have to watch it...especially around flags, the slightest nudge on anything sends the copter into a nasty flip.

It's kinda like the EF chopper, the tiger-hap thing.

Seems the guy who coded the original choppers left or got canned

Fighting most attack heli's is a joke in recons. If you get within 100-200m of them they should die no questions asked. Just make sure you don't let them keep you lined up for TV or rockets, keep stafing and make sure you don't overheat your gun while firing.

If they are pilots who are flying high and letting there gunner TV targets from range it's a bit trickier. Fly low and fast, stay out of the direction they are facing, get under them so you have them on radar (gods gift to recons). Once you've done that gain altitude and say hello

The dumb ones will get baited into pulling off some evasive maneuver, losing altitude...once they do that, you have them.

I haven't had this happen to me yet but it's possible for the attack heli pilot to keep going up and keep you below him forever resulting in a sort of stalemate. You can of course gain altitude bit by bit, pitch up fire away (and lose altitude in the process), gain altitude again, fire away, rinse, repeat.

When you see AA tanks, run the fuck away. Try and find cover asap or you're toast. They fire what 6 AA missiles? It only takes 2 to blow you out of the sky so you have to be fully aware of AA tanks at all times.

Stingers are bad news to, if you don't know where it's coming from, run the fuck away. If you do know it's very easy to pick off the guy using it with the chainguns.

Never stay still in a recon, only hover if absolutely necessary. Keep moving at all times, if you're picking off infantry near a flag, keep strafing around in circles and mix it up. Staying still = getting raped by AT guys. Being predictable = getting raped by AT guys.

About recon vs recon. The US recons seems to be the best one. The MEC recon gets slaughtered every time, it seems the MEC chaingun doesn't connect properly, not sure why. It seem just as good at killing infantry but when facing the littlebird it fails over and over. I've had fights where the enemy MEC recon was right on me and had a full 3-4seconds of firing...he still died once i got my guns on him. Face to face battles usually leaves the little bird with half health once the MEC recon blows up. It doesn't really stand a chance.

If you're in the MEC recon try and sneak up on the littlebird, do not miss, keep on him and don't let up. I haven't flown the chinese recon all that much but it's gun seems comparable to the littlbird in a 1 on 1. I'll have to test that later

Love the scout choppers, although the MEC one does seem at something of a disadvantage to the other two in my experience. The guns seem to mow infantry down better but are less effective at taking out an enemy heli

My favorite part about littlebirds is how easily they tip over/blow up when you drop a fav on them

When I'm flying one though and attacking another heli I'll get a height advantage and just fly straight at them.  Usually they can't hit me very easily while falling backwards they they either crash or I kill them quickly.  Midnight sun is definitly my fav littlebird map but there's way too much damn mobile aa

How do you do that? Do you just put a "repairs needed at this location" command there or what?

Well i've been loving flying the recon helo's. From what i've noticed the US recon is a lot twitchier/nimbler and the MEC/PLA seems to be a lot more stable but not as easy to turn. I'm using a saitek x45 if it matters. I really like the chaingun on the US helo the best. It took me awhile to keep from crashing while trying to land/repair/rearm. i had the flipping problem. i even blew up just landing a little too hard lol. I found that on my saitek throttle it only seems to work the helo throttle at the upper 50% of the saitek throttle range and I was pushing the throttle back too far. these small helo's seem to lose energy a lot quicker than the larger helo's so making constant adjustments on the throttle is really crucial to not crashing and burning.

I haven't racked up many points but they are fun to fly and if there's a good commander you really help giving him and the other players a 2nd set of eyes on the battlefield. I was getting a ton of special driver points or something and i have no idea whats causing that. i normally only have one other guy in the chopper. i'm not sure what you get the special driver points or whatever for.

I also try to crisscross between all my sides frontline flags. this will help show any enemy movements along the front. and i try to go to where the commanders UAV ISN'T. going into "enemy lines" so to speak(especially on Road Rage) is usually a receipe for disaster as you'll find yourself balls deep into stingers, AA, armor and light vehicle MG's. I have made a 2 man drop on road rage on a back flag when the mec had taken all the flags but the USMC uncaps. after i dropped off the guys i circled the area to highlight any threats in the area. we got the flag and splitting the mec forces helped us get a lot of flags back.

oh and i would like to apologize to anyone riding with me in my "testing phase" when i was finding that things like the lightpoles would in fact make your helo blow up .

As another helo pilot why would you do this to someone anyways.  I would never and have never dropped a vehicle for any reason but to assist my team in moving around the field of battle.

I hate that crap.  Use the vehicle drop properly.  That would be for infantry to move around the field more quickly in turn causing you to win.  I can't wait for 1.3 fix patch because I'm pretty damn sure they will eliminate the capability to drop vehicles on helo pads, arty, airfields.

Colfax, i saw that happen twice on Harvest last night. i was just warming up my mec helo when i hear a thunk and the bird rocks and a fucking jeep rolls over my onto the side. luckily it was a bad drop and being on the pad repaired me. The guys in the attack chopper weren't so lucky. about 1 min later the other helo spawned and as soon as they were lifting off i saw the car dropping. i tried to say something on chat but it was just too late. blew both of them to hell. fucking cartillery

The legs on them are long as fuck, if you are possible to get it into a nice strafe pattern and it gets too low by the time you can give it a yank to get it to gain altitude the leg grabs onto something and your ass over shoulders in the shit. I HATE THAT!!! UGH!!!

I dont mind when someone does it because all it takes is turning the vehicle while its grounded for the car to slide off the top of you. Then when their foot soldiers need transport the commander goes NEGATIVE NEGATIVE lol.

I have recently started to warn and KICK people for destroying artillery with car drops because that is an exploit imo.

But back to the littlebird, yeah. I've had people drop cars galore on my head while on the helipad.

Because you can just completely lock down your enemies scout chopper for the entire round?  When I play as commander I play to win and it works most of the time.

Plus it's hilarious seeing the same guy trying over and over and over again to get into the chopper.  They just never seem to learn.

Well this is a tip thread for flying the recon helos.  So the main people looking here are people who love to fly the recon helos including me.  And to wait and wait and wait for people to not be using it then to finally get it and have a vehicle dropped on you...i mean come on.  All you are really doing is griefing.  Let them get off the ground and kill them properly.

And if you are zoomed in on the helopads looking for them to be there HOW ARE YOU HELPING YOUR TEAM.  On top of that im sure there is some guy on the field running towards the next flag thinking hey it would be nice to have a vehicle but he requests it and you cant drop it cuz what did you do.  Dropped it on a helo pad.  Real useful.

I use the recons as a fast flag cap vehicle. Load up 2 other guys race to a rear enemy flag that noone is spawning at, and in abouit 7-10secs flag cap. Also, when I have my clan on with me I get 2 guys to be eng while I am resupply = one badass mine laying machine.

Here is a suggestion that I have found usefull.  When dog fighting on road rage, ask the commander for a Supply Crate on top of the Water Tower, It makes for a quick place to reload and repair so you can stay close to the action.
