religion if you're talking about the past. I say because a prime example are the crusades by the christians trying to take jerusalem i think. Also, religion is usually the cause of arguments between races of people and may catalyse a war about something else like land.

yea but before all of this there was religious wars, who knows what the very first wary were fought over. Probably food and a female to get sexeh with.
I think its resources like oil... you know they will be depleted within the next centuries. Thus the prices raise and it will become invaluable.

No, I don't really think that religion is the real cause for most wars, but mostly an excuse and a great motivator. Maybe stupidity should be on the list. Wasn't WW1 pretty much started because none of the leaders had any clue what they were doing?
