Bush has made it clear that he'd attack all "axis of evil" nations if anything like a terrorist nuke were to go off in the states. It'd just be a death warrant for those third-world countries. An attack in-person on the whitehouse would be suicide. Too many angry "guards."

The science of making a nuke is pretty straightforward, it's getting enough material to get through testing that's hard.

Pretty much anyone with an A-level in physics could make a nuke, (not sure what the equivalent US education is). The reason no one does is, a) they're not that stupid, and b) they can't get hold of the equipment and supplies.
If you buy some weapons-grade uranium or whatever you choose to use, people are going to notice.

Well, let's actually TRY to follow the idea of the OP (suspension of disbelief people, you have to actually imagine that scenario and act on it, rather than just saying "Baah...that'll never happen..."). This very much sounds like a Tom Clancy premise.

I'd say we'd pretty much be at an impasse/standoff. First of all, it really depends on what terrorists do it, since there are several different varieties. You could have splinter cell extremist groups for a variety of causes here in the US, mercenaries/militants from other countries, etc...
The whole "we don't negotiate with terrorists" attitude only gets more people killed, so there would hopefully be an attempt to negotiate, especially if there is a live nuke present. We'd attempt to meet their demands while assembling a counter-terrorism team (wait...you mean things like in Counterstrike DO Exist? zOMG!), and if the CT team fails (usually unlikely, but can happen depending on how good/prepared the terrorists are) then we have to follow the US chain of command...if we lose the President, VP comes into power, and then the Senate Pro Tem, etc etc.

If the CT team succeeds, then a full on investigation will be carried out to determine the terrorist sources, and (if we have a proper government in place) we'll hunt down and attempt to eradicate that ONE PARTICULAR CELL of terrorism, or attempt to negotiate with them to stop their wishes of wanting to commit atrocities. Killing terrorists does not stop terrorism; on the contrary it's very much a Hyrda effect.

Well, lets say these terrorists do get the President. They signed their death warrant and the warrant of all their buddies. We then take full action of the USA and invade all parts of the middle east. We shoot anything suspicious and make sure no one can blow themselves to pieces. If/When the president is killed there will be no negotiations. Negotiations are not followed by the enemy(WWII, we had a treaty with Germany, they invaded anyway). We shoot to kill, Reagan is resurrected and goes straight to the front to kill any Islamic freak he see's. It will be known as a World War. Everyone that sides with the terrorists will be dealt with swiftly. If they don't give up like Japan didn't in WWII. Nukes fall on your pathetic heads. We can't be stopped, China still doesn't have a chance. One nuke on their country would make them stop, Liberals don't know what to do. They think peace is perfect, I've got news. If I set up the Scenario like this then ( with a terrorist group like Hezbollah):
The terrorist leader acts as a Prince of some sort and gets to meet the President (P). At the same time one terrorist snipes out the guys on the roof. The other terrorists assault the White House and takes everyone hostage. The Leader takes P hostage to protect the guards from doing anything. They put everyone in a large room. And the Secret Service in another room. Then they put trigged bombs at every enter/exit to keep the CT:s from getting in. They is willing to negotiate but they have high demands... AND if the demands aren't met they will kill the hostages!

What will US do? Assault the WH and people will get killed or negotiate?
