The reason they aren't trying to cure aids anymore is the same reason why they aren't pushing for alternate fuel methods for cars.  If the aids disease was miraculously cured by a pill you could take, think off all the companies that would be out of business and the money they would lose.

If they made decent cars that could run off a reusable commodity like hydrogen or solar power, think of all the money Chevron/Texaco/Shell/Whoever would lose!

Now that the Bird Flu is around and in the news every other day,  people believe it's the next plague even though it's only killed killed a handful of people.  Put up the number of deaths from aids or cancer world wide and compare them to the Bird Flu and tell me which one you are more afraid of!

The inability to get only decently with another fellow human being, that will be the disease with no cure. Just look at some of the exchanges on this forum itself

I dunno', but it seems quite likely that, were hydrogen to be adopted, these companies would most likely rennovate for the new systems.

On the large scale, no, it isn't. Most religious wars have been ones in defense of a perceived encroachment. In modern times, such a conflict isn't seeming too realistic.

WTF are you trying say there? I can't quite understand it when you've got a dictionary/thesaurus stuck in your mouth. The nonsense has been highlighted in case you have trouble parsing it yourself.

lol. Hey, you wanna' make assumptions, suit yourself -- fact is, in every aspect, it makes sense.

At this current point in time, it's quite hard to differentiate actual global warming between a minor climate change within dear ol' Earf.
Perhaps you're not up to date, but in the last 100 years our planet's average temperature has risen 1 degree. That's pretty minor -- well, excepting for the fact that over the last 1000 years (prior to this century) the rise was about the same. I'd say we're having a pretty drastic effect.

lol. I'm not even discussing severity of impact, but just that global warming isn't a discernible issue at this point in time, given that temperature increases have, during some years, made no progress even during peak increases in automotive/gasoline use.

As an example of how drastic a change one degree is, just look at the scale of which hurricanes we've been seeing. You can not write off the weather changes as "incidental" -- Katrina, etc, are storms the likes of which that area of the world has never seen. At least not for thousands of years. Additionally, did you know that this last hurricane season, the weather service ran out of their predefined names for a given season due to the never before seen number of weather events?

Please don't be so trite when writing off such a massive subject, it's ignorant.

i agree with the human stupidity theory.........

not so much in the environmental sense, but more along the lines of,
we'll keep producing technology to such an extent that we will eventually genetically eradicate what actually makes us human, in the vain pursuit or trying to make us perfect humans.

that was deeper than i thought................

Some tribes in Africa are immune to aids[deep puff and inhale hold and exhale]will grow old and evolve and eventually form a new race that is going to have both sexes and start there own religion called the bumblebee tuna religion.[deep puff and inhale hold and exhale] and that my friend will be the start of a new world order guns and bombs will be a thing of the past and stones and spears will be the new weapons of choice with now human beings alive the animal and insects will evolve into the old days of dinosaurs and giant bugs and they will fight for survival until the next Big Bang that will cause all of them to die. [deep puff and inhale hold and exhale] and from them will form a new enzyme with a new DNA strand that will influence the growth of a new human race that will be superior to all gods and aliens and will rule thee earth for all eternity dang my joints finished !!!!!

religion isnt goin to be the end of mankind, religion will die soon enuf. the top countries in the world (wealth etc) are more secular now than ever before, that is if u dont take USA into the accounting, but there are reasons why they still hold religion in high regard.

religion as we know it will wither and die when the world gets even in advancement

I say something new, But its not really something new. It will be man who destroys man. Look at all the hate in the world, the lack of understanding, and the lack of understanding and judgment of a country based on ONE MAN.

Thats whats going to destroy mankind, MAN!

Xietsu, while i agree on your views on global warming and storms. I have to dissagree on the assumption that storms are of the nature of what has never been seen. the storms are the same, Katrina was different in the fact it hit New Orleans. Thats the ONLY difference between that storm and any other that enters the gulf. Does anyone bitch and moan about all the deaths these storms cause In the third world countries they destroy before they get to our coast? NOPE. The loss of life and the total whipeout of whole viliges and towns on its way to the US coast doesnt even show up as a blip on the medias reporting radar.

Katrina was only bad because it hit a city that shouldnt have ever been built in the first place. If you have to pump out the city after EVERY rain storm, dont you think you might have a problem in the future? Poor planning and poor placement is the only reason katrina was so devistateing. I was there Volenteering, You literally have to drop 20 feet over a wall to get to ground level in New Orleans.
