I think some people are misunderstanding this, you only need to hand in knives that you would normally carry around for defence or whatever reason you have.

And you don't think that maybe combatting criminal culture could have prevented anything? Britain and Australia both have less violent incidents than the US, and both have far stricter gun laws. Explain that.
Well, we have a great country, not willing to give ourselves up and have no source of defense. Because our nation is so successful (right to bear arms has helped us become successful) we have millions of poor, desperate people trying to sneak into our country. Our diversity brings segregation among races, unfortunately many immigrants are poor and take desperate actions to try and rise. With TONS of illegal, stolen or "just lying around " guns, these people fight each other, mostly in places like LA and Miami. Our violence is actually a result of our success, and that banning weapons will lower crime rates a little bit, but there are too many guns and other weapons circulating around for this to stop soon.

What i wanna know is how are they seriously going to enforce the turning in of kitchen knives? That makes absoutly no sense to me, 'cause like I said in that other guy's post... how are they gonna skin the deer they just killed, or clean fish, blah blah blah...
did you guys see that CCTV video of the two students getting stabbed? Just saw it on the news right now. I have never been so pissed off and shocked because of a video, and trust me ive seen some crazy videos. The way the students are attacked for so goddamn reason is unbelievable. And then the other attacker just stabs away at him so fast. Then the attackers are high-fiving each other afterwards. Im lost for words really. Very sensible for the dead kids parents to allow this video to be aired, I think it will knock sense into some people.

I did not mean to make the impression that all imigrants are murderers, it is a fact, however bias it might sound that minority groups / immigrants are considerably poorer. They are poor because a. they have been discriminated against, b. they came here poor, they dont know our system and fall into below min wage jobs or c. they have become part of some sort of gang because they start with little money, they get tricked into thinking this is a get rich quick scheme and end up dead or completely lost in the world of drugs and such. These people are very desperate and obtain weapons illegally through drug trafficing and such. With so many guns circulating illegaly, it would put law abiding citizcens at a disadvantage. What I am trying to get at is that our goverment doesnt need to tighten laws against weapons, but tighten up on trying to improve communities and getting illegal weapons off the streets.

in sweden its not allowed to wear a knife when u go out, u cant wear a gun either.
guns at home must be keeped in safe locks, they cant be put on the wall like in the old days. i dont know about swords for looks tho, but i think they might have to be locked away to.

It's a tough call, I still say run away, or don't go anywhere near crack neighborhoods. If the guy has a gun, I'd be pretty screwed but I'd still not want to kill somebody. I'd still run. I've seen tazers do a pretty good job, either way, most of the time people here don't shoot, just use the weapon for intimidation. Everyone who shoots others gets found in Vancouver. So I would run, I know it's different in the states in lots of places.
