hi Ozzy guys,

was just thinking i would do a bit of research on the topic, and ask you guys if there are many Web Development jobs going in Australia? the main cities. Obviously only if you known if there is a high/medium demand for them?

considering maybe getting away from Scotland at some point and move somewhere sunnier where the people still speak the same language.

Im not entirely sure about his but i dont think there is a huge demand for them but u could come out and see. At the moment companies are trying to phase out dial up net connections and alot of new service providers are popping up, so you could probably find a job with them.

Uhhh.... you could try seek,, it seems to be the biggest online job database in Australia.

I honestly don't know.

It also really depends what city you like. If you like the tropical, warm-all-year climate, go Brisbane or Airns. If you like a more temperate climate, with lots of beaches, try Sydney or Melbourne (Melbourne's a bit colder). Don't really know about Adelaide and Perth. If you want clean air, not too much noise and tons of space, try Canberra.

Warm all year?

Gawd, you'd think the seasons were the wrong way round here, in summer it gets hidiously cold, and apart from mornings, winter is fairly warm

well i have definetally been considering it since my Uni days, it just depends one what is going down there, the pay i would get, how easy it would be to move there and find somewhere to live.

been looking at that seek web site and there seem to be a few jobs which would suit me.

what are the shops like down there? what would you say was the average salary for an assistant manager in retail? my g/f is in retail so she would obviously need to get a job too! dont want her sponging off me!

where would be the best place for good weather. not too hot when it is hot, and not too cold when it is cold?

just now i am used to not very hot in the summer, and not majorly cold in the winter. but it rains most of the time so some place where it doesnt rain too much.

that way it would not be too different from here!

I spent a couple of years working for a company called Vortex Media ( www.vortexmedia.com.au) but I know the demand for web designers is not so much dropping off as "changing" companies here in Brisbane are now looking for "all round" coders who can work in multiple environments both web based and non web based. The seek link is obviously a good start however most IT positions are advertised on companies stand alone websites.
Depending on how flexible you are in your desire for specific job roles I know the Boeing has a number of IT positions to fill on military contract jobs (Im actually applying for one of these myself as I need a change of scene) however they are not usually web design based more MCSA/MCSE or Project Deployment and management.

Anyway if you would like further info on Australia and more specifically Queensland feel free to email me anytime and I will help where I can.

Cheers,
SCUD

Not here for cold. Holy fuck - I've never known it this cold this early. Global warming? More like Global cooling! Summer is OK - sort of. It can get agonizingly hot at times - 30 degrees plus is no big deal. 35+ is getting more and more common.

It deson't rain here too much. And when I say 'here', I mean ANYWHERE in NSW, Victoria, ACT, SA or WA. QLD gets tons - they get cyclones too (so do NT). We're just coming out of an el Nino, so you might hear a bit about 'the Big Dry'.

Newcastle, maybe? Or Sydney? The main problem with the eastern seaboard climate is that it gets quite cold in winter/autumn and quite hot in summer.

Western Seabord seems a bit too dry for me. Southern seabord is a bit too empty - and cold. Victoria usually bears the brunt of any major cold fronts before they get here.

Not quite...

The most habitable (real word?) climate is between Port Stephans and Batemans Bay.

-This area is not to hot (ie. tropical like Q.Land), or too cold like Victoria (because of the roaring 40's effect on the climate).

-The area is on the Eastern Coast. Because of ocean currents going via the equator, there is enough rain in this area.

All = perfect climate.

(learned that earlier this year in Geography)

Cairns..... Learn to spell Spark...

Don't come to the Top End first.... You will die of heat strain ....

The Top End rocks though.... NT rocks in general.....

EDIT

Well.... Oz rocks in general... But the NT kicks the crap out of the other states... We have more dangerous animals (besides the Funnel Web... but the Tiapan beats that any day....)..... There are looser laws on drugs in the NT too (besides Kava... Because of the large Tongan population...).... And lower levels of gun control (I think, they did change these in the last couple of years though so I could be wrong...)....

NT rocks... is that why there is talk of sending the Defence Force in to quell the aboriginal "problem"?

Yeah, but that was to stop the shitfight between Melbourne and Sydney.  The other states didn't bother trying because they $uxx0rz.

*And* we're trying to get more women to don the shorts

Besides, Melbourne's the business capital of Australia, *Sydney's* the gay capital (gay as in homosexual, not gay as in bad........although that statement would be just as true )

Yea... we have:

The Rocks
Harbour Bridge
Opera House
Lady Macquaries Park (that what it's called?)
The Zoo
Centre Point

Not to mention 95% of all international tourists go through Sydney when coming to Australia.
