Last summer in Halifax, Nova Scotia gas went from 105.99 or 109.99 a ltr. to 148.99 a ltr in two days.
I expect the same thing will happen this year when the oil companies get a tip from the oil companies that the sun isn't going to come up the next morning.

I am in Ohio and it is about $2.80 right now.  Sad this is I went to pump gas at a local place that only takes credit at the pump and they had a $49 limit on the charge.  I drive a truck that holds at least 22 gal and I could only pump about 18.  At the rate prices are going you won't be able to fill the tank on a Mini there before long.

I sold my truck 5 years ago because of gas prices even back then.  I couldn't even imagine how much it would cost to drive a truck right now.  My guess is that the gas pump starts looking like that national deficit ticker they have in NY.

I'm sorry, but did you use 'Cavalier' and 'heavy driving' in the same sentence?

My car is FWD, and it's done right by me.  Our biggest problem here is that there are so many 4x4 vehicles.  These idiots think they can drive faster than everyone else.  They don't realize that 4x4 can help you get moving in snow, but does ZERO to help you get stopped.

In fact, mini-vans and SUVs are so popular here because of the extremely large family sizes.  I just call them MAVs, short for Mormon Assault Vehicle.

The problem is this, and nothing else:

Oil Companies, they do not compete with each other as other industries do. They have a vital commodity, where the price is not regulated. We HAVE to use oil right now.

Big oil is ass-raping you, and me, and everyone else. Except people who can afford it. They use excuses like hurricans, or downed refineries, war...etc... to inflate the prices to unrealistic levels. Problem is, there isn't a damn thing we can about it, except spread a little wider to ease the pain.

While I do believe if there was a serious investigation that some level of price fixing would be found amongst oil companies, I believe the biggest problem is OPEC.  They lead everyone around by the balls.   They reduce oil production to keep prices inflated, and they flat out price fix.  That's exactly what they are doing every time they determine a change in output and pricing per barrel.

In the US we are lucky we are paying BY THE GALLON.

Some folks are paying by the Liter.  1 US Gallon = 3.79 Liters Approx.
That's about $0.76/liter for us.

That's figured on $2.85 a gallon. (Prices where I'm at).

And now for the entertainment portion of our show:

Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll give it a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. So I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never had a problem with get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Send in the marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number was called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some guy from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes home to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile my buddy from Southie realizes the only reason he was over there was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the skirmish to scare up oil prices so they could turn a quick buck. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And naturally they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin' 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what do I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. Why not just shoot my buddy, take his job and give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president.

I spend £60 UK a week on fuel and thats if I dont leave town. I would love to use public transport, but its even more expensive than paying the fuel.........even with our High fuel costs......

I think another US problem is that everything is spreading to the burbs.  We need to go back to designing walkable communities.

I know the US pays half of what the UK does......but when I started driving 5 years ago, it was $1.08 a gallon.  And now it is roughly $2.90, so its a pretty steep change for us here.  I live about 10 minutes east of Indianapolis, Indiana.  In a way its kinda humorous that some guy/lady will pull up to the pump driving their *insert sarcasm here because i know some will think im serious* 2009 Porche SUV with a V24 engine and bitch about the gas price.  I understand that some people need bigger trucks to haul trailers, equipment etc. But why does over half of my citys population have to drive the biggest SUV they can buy?......just doesnt make sense to me.  I have a Cavalier, and the mileage it gets is crap compared to my previous '96 dodge neon that was a 5 speed lol.  I dont see how the euro people survive the prices.  Hope their jobs pay better than mine lol

when I was in Iraq, gas was free for any iraqi who was a registered voter but the lines were so long.  Iraqi families would delegate members so they could stay posted in line for days.  Seriously, a gas line would last for days, itll take you 3 days to get a tank of gas.

Any iraqi who hordes gas is considered a criminal and gets treated as if they were insurgents.

when I got back from over there and bought my car with all that deployment money, gas was $2.07 a gallon in central texas.  When I ETS'ed and drove cross country to california it turned into 2.75 a gallon.  this was all last year around this time.  now its $3.30 at the corner station.

The unit of measurement won't make any difference to the price, as you'd still be paying for the same physical amount of fuel.  If your tank held 50 litres instead of 13.2 gallons you'd still be paying the same amount to fill it.  Metric is actually a more logical system as its all done in base 10, and we have 10 fingers to count on...

Its $NZ1.71 a litre here, $US1.07 a litre.  Or, $NZ6.48 a gallon/$US4.06 a gallon.

I walk to work/uni, or catch the bus (diesel/electric hybrid) if its raining.

Move here. It takes 10 minutes to get to work, we don't have any pollution, traffic problems, our fuel is $1.40, little crime, lots of open space etc. etc.

As soon as I fix my bike's tire, I'm going to use it exclusively for light cargo trips around town. Either that or sacrifice about $500 this year that I could be using for new computer parts instead.

I wonder what the federal taxes are in other countries besides the US.  In the US, the federal tax is 18.4 cents a gallon, in addition to any state tax on gasoline (in Cali it is another 18 cents).  That means every gallon I'm paying 35 cents in tax.  What do you guys in other countries pay in tax?  Also, whats the average amount of miles driven in a year for you all?
