To try and make a discussion out of this: Does anyone here think that more measures and advice should be available to help this type of self-serving excitement addiction (it could be paralleled to Fight Club mentality), or is a problem which is simply criminal behaviour which should not be treated as a mental illness?

He's awaiting psych assessment, so we'll see what the British Justice system thinks about what made him do it in due course.

There are freaks all over. I had a maintenance guy at a building I worked at shut off the elevators so he could "rescue" people. He was fired and charged with criminal mischief. He almost got attempted murder because of one old man with a dodgy heart but the old guy couldn't make it to court so the charges wouldn't stick.
