anyone else have this problem?  the EA downloader apparently requires internet explorer to be able to download anything.  i use firefox because my IE doesn't work for some stupid reason.  so, naturally, in all EA's wisdom, they choose the shittiest browser on the planet to host their downloader and i get fucked.

any advice?  can you get euro force from another place besides the EA downloader?

no i have firefox and it worked fine and I.E 7 is not supported only I.E 6 is cuz I.E 7 is a beta version so if you have a beta versoin of firefox then it wont work you have to have a full versoin and not a beta one.

90% of the EA site(s) barely work with Firefox, its not just the downloader.

How can you tell which browser the EA Downloader is using? I have IE on my computer but I have Firefox as the default browser in XP. I know with Steam when I click on things like screen shots, Steam automatically open it in IE even though Firefox is set as my default browser.

i think thats what my problem is.  my IE doesnt work, so i use firefox.  you guys that use firefox probably use it out of choice, not need.  you have firefox set as your default, but the EA downloader uses your IE when it opens.  yours works, unlike mine, so you dont see a difference.

Why do you think the EA Downloader uses a browser?

well, I did have no troubles with FF, but when first installing the EAD, there was an error message saying active scripting / java needs to be enabled for the Downloader to work. I checked in FF and it was enabeld. So I checked IE ( which is not set as default browser ) and changed the settings there, although I wasn't even using IE for the registration stuff. Suddenly, the Downloader worked.

So although the downloader itself doesn't use a browser, there is obviously some connection between the two.

Still, I believe EA has some strange and dangerous affiliation with Microsoft...

you do need ie6 no other way round it you can get to installing ea downloader through firefox but ea downloader needs a browser to open it and only ie will let it

ok souloution i had a bugged ie6 so used firefox for ages now

i installed ie7beta (available for free download from microsft) i then uninstalled it you need to check show updates in add remove software then you can remove ie7 beta

this will overwrite your bad files in ie6 and then removed the added ie7 beta files that dissallow ead to work

my m8 also had to uninstall ie7 to get ead to work for him

because when the EA downloader DOESN'T work, it showes the internet explorer error message in the download window.  that's how i know.

Yep. EA downloader uses IE. It doesn't show that it does, and may link to firefox when you actually access the Internet/webpages, but it does use IE as far as I can see. I don't use IE generally, and the gamespy edit nick I copy and paste straight out of IE into firefox and keep going with that. Although ef. doesn't work for another reason according to ea its a GameSpy db problem, esp. if you have "-", "=", and "." in it, probably for other special characters too. So be warned if you have special characters ef may not work with your nick, i'm waiting to hear back from ea to see if gamespy will fix mine somehow. But EA UK support told me not too hold my breath.

Thanks. I hate when they do that.

I would have uninstalled IE but for two things:

1. You can't.
2. Microsoft Update requires it.

Hardly.
But IE is on virtually 100% of the computers used to play BF2.

Yea, it's on mine, but I don't use it. Only when Firefox fails.
