We(USA) produce more energy than say CHina with a huge population, because in China the only places they really used indutrial and technological things is in their main cities, whereas the everyone in the US uses electronics, cars, and all sorts of energy consuming things. This is because in Amerca most people can afford things like this, in China alot of people are dirt poor. Oh and we WONT run out of energy EVER. According to the late Albert Einstein, energy cannot be created nor destroyed...it is recycled over and over...so yeah.

For pollution from vehicles, the US is higher than any other country, and will probably continue to be for some time.  I would say outside of very large east coast cities, like New York, most American households have at least two cars, and several have more; one for each adult, and maybe one extra for their driving age children.

Also, the proliferation of 4x4 trucks and SUVs for everyday driving have become common place.  Since gas prices have gone up ~$1 per gallon over what they were 12-18 months ago, many people have sold these larger vehicles for crossover SUVs, and many have gone back to cars.  We are also starting to see more hybrid and multi-fuel cards (E85) becoming available.  For those that aren't aware, an E85 vehicle is capable of running on regular gasoline, or running on E85 fuel, which is an 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline mixture.

I think the US could go a long ways in reducing foreign oil dependency if we could get vehicles that were an E85 hybrid.  Because there is so much money already tied up in manufacturing and distribution of standard gasoline the government would need to offer tax subsidies to get this off the ground.  Provide tax breaks to those that buy the vehicles, farmers to grow the extra corn to make the ethanol, refineries for manufacturing E85, gas stations for carrying the E85 fuel, and the auto makers for bringing the vehicles to market.

As for air conditioning, the winter/summer conditions across the US very dramatically.  Some areas are more moderate than others.  Where I live isn't even the worst extreme, but I live in a mountain valley desert.  During the winter our temps are below freezing (0 Celsius), sometimes well below that, but in the summer the average temp is 35-37C, with several days as high as high as 42C.  Places further south, like Phoenix and Las Vegas have daily summertime temps of 43-49C.

A cow puts out more greenhouse gasses than a car, but their gas doesn't cause respiratory problems and has not been linked to cancer or other illnesses like fossil fuels have.

Wrong.  When Matter and Anti-Matter meet, they are converted to heat and light energy.  Energy can be converted to matter and vice versa, but neither just 'disappears'.
