Yeah that was.... long ago ... before they had airplanes, that was back when horses were thier main source of power to get places, you have to go back to the French-American Wars, I think they are talking now. France has 'hidden', look at the Iraq incident.

Everyone was soooo scared of a general war that England and the US bent over backwards to accomodate the 3rd Reich prior to the invasion of Poland. Hell, Chamberlain flew to Germany thrice just to have an audience with Hitler. Regarding to Iraq: Maybe France doesnt want to put their soldiers on the line for a cause that they dont believe in. The US went in saying that weapons of mass destruction was what we wanted and look, we havent found any. But lets stay on topic here and save the Iraq crap for another thread.

russia and canada are about the same at just over 1 trillion

Weakest military? Canada by far!! Our helos chrash all the times, we purchased leaking subs from Great Britain. We have the longest border world (Can/US) wide with the smallest land army. We sent our troops in Afghanistan with GREEN camo gear!

well what should you have heard from italy recently? i mean... what should have happened? we haven't heard anything from australia recently, does that mean anything?

to get back in topic, if you're talking about military force, keep in mind that italy and japan suffer from wwII consequencies and hence have small armies (although they're well equipped). so obviuosly if you mean who has the smaller army that would be one among italy canada and japan. but that's clear because for example italian constitution states that italy cannot attack foreign countries unless it is already under attack, and that means our army has defensive purposes except for special forces assigned to nato missions (i.e. our soldiers in iraq, even if some "regular" battalions were embedded).

if you're talking about economy i wouldn't know, russia has a lot of poor areas tho. so i'd say russia.
