Can someone tell me how to calculate the clock speed conversion between AMD and Intel processors. Such as an ***Ghz AMD is = to a ***Ghz Intel
the model number on an AMD chip is said to be a rough conversion to intel ghz. As in, an a 3200 series amd chip should perform the same as an intel chip clocked at 3.2 ghz
yea^
I remember reading somewhere that the Intel P4 chips do 6 calculations per clock, while the AMD XP chip does 9 IPC. I'm not totally sure about the AMD 64's but I would guess that they do around 9 also. So that gives them a 33% advantage clock for clock over the P4. Hence their ratings which are roughly 30% higher than the actual clockspeed of the processor.
With your given numbers 3200+ which is 2Ghz is equal to the 3.2 Intel, then the Intel processor is ratted 60% higher because 2000 x 1.60 perfectly = 3.2

Intel is clocked higher to compensate the architectural changes to their core design and is no direct comparison to AMD's similarly numbered processors. It's only speculation that people associate the 3200+ model with Intel's 3.2GHz processor. It may be part of marketing's scheme to get people to link the two numbers together but it is in no way related to each other.
