i think most college/university kids look back fondly on their course 'work', which is largely composed of essays/papers, yes.
Nope, easily the worst part.

Here are my equations, figures, experimental results, here are the graphs, why do I need to write 10,000 words when about 200 would explain it nicely?
oh i don't know dilbert, what is the point of a university education? why try to encourage people to get good at expressing their thoughts and ideas in eloquent, formal, long-form prose? what is the point in that?!?! it's an exercise and a skill that benefits you throughout your life. as if very evident from several years on this forum with you, it's a benefit you didn't really take advantage of. expression of ideas and healthy intellectual exchange is not your strong-point.

it's funny, because you're the one that talks about university being 'job training', and yet you can't see the use of trying to teach university students how to write and develop their ideas cogently. hmmm. need i dig up that study of the graduate workplace again that states employers are far more dissatisfied with the average level of literacy/written communication, rather than the basic numerical skills of all graduates? that one seemed to be quite cloying for you, didn't it. heaven forbid a degree tries to teach you some soft-skills and inter-personal skills in between all those lab results and graphs.

In the workplace people are more valued for concise, accurate and unambiguous communication TBH, getting away from writing verbiage just to meet the word count was one of the best things which happened in my life.

so every long piece of university work is "verbiage"? it's impossible to write 10,000 words of concise, accurate prose? LOL ok.

sorry you approached your degree so poorly that you saw the word count as something you had to artificially inflate your work meaninglessly towards. that's not true for all of us. most people i know had to cut down dramatically to meet word limits (the key word here is 'limit', i.e. something you must refine and pare down to, not word 'target', which is evidently what it was for you). please don't impose your own shortcomings on the whole exercise.

so? not difficult. the point is you didn't enjoy it and saw it as pointless. wow. you did a master's and spited the actual work and skills it involved. not sure why you're making out like i'm the stupid or conflicted one here. still sounds to me like you approached it poorly, or with the wrong attitude. the marks you got are irrelevant if you didn't feel contented or 'see the point' in what it asked you to do. a large proportion of masters graduate with merit/distinction. it's inflated compared to undergrad. doesn't mean zilch about your own approach, does it?

irrelevant in the context of this debate, of course, surely not irrelevant in your conception of education as a 'simple tool to make more money'. i'm sure your master's degree has helped supplement your earnings almost as much as not having to pay rent has. but that is, respectfully, not the point. if you took two degrees and you thought the formal writing elements of the degrees were stupid/pointless, then methinks you have someone missed the entire intellectual endeavor of higher-education. scientists who can only produce graphs are not that much use, especially in corporate work.

I received the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the NY auto show. If I get lucky I will get the chance to talk with a Japanese or Korean model. Might even get a picture.

Nope. Buddy has to do work on some of the cars and I am tagging along. I doubt it will be as awesome as it sounds.

dauntless i found a way you can move to america and even obtain citizenship. it's a big if though. when they legalize gay marriage you can come here and marry kenjennings. you have to consummate it but we all know ken shaves his so it will be a smooth ride buddy. as an extra bonus you get to visit LA. taking care of two birds with one stick as they say.

the way you robotically say "maybe i can get a photo with a korean model" is pretty laughable. you're a grown man, talking like that. okay dude. go get laid. stop clinically talking about having photographs taken with models, as if it's a specific aim or ambition of yours. that's kinda weird. isn't that just an absent-minded, spontaneous thing that may happen at one of those shows? you talk about it as if you've done a flow-chart decision tree leading to the event.

Truck wouldn't start this morning, then started after five minutes of leaving it alone.

Your literature degree didn't cover jokes? You have to be dumb to think I was being serious.
