it was noble. he had great intentions. he had a good degree that could have got him a cushty writing job in the city. instead he stayed in the north-east of england, mostly an economically deprived area, and dedicated himself to writing about the specific culture and issues there. instead of taking his luxury postgraduate education into a well-paying job, he decided to go and live rough with homeless people, to bring attention to their plight. that's a guy with privilege opting to go and live with nothing. and sticking it out through immense pain and discomfort... til death. that is the definition of NOBLE.Roc18 wrote:

how is it even possible to be an investigative journalist without that additional benefit/motive? are you saying all investigative journalists should be dismissed because their mission to uncover 'truths' and bring good stories in also obviously secondarily feeds a career? what nonsense. he chose to do it, rather than not do it. there's a lot of jobs in london for copy-writers with creative writing degrees. very cushty financial jobs. so what if the pretext for him taking the trip was an application to a competitive journalism scheme? that's like saying every piece of civil infrastructure an engineer designs/builds shouldn't be respected or given thanks for, because he was doing it for the commission money, or the career-portfolio, or whatever. everything contributes to one's career/resume. jesus.
