I've been looking into new cellphone contracts recently, and was curious as to how much the average person spends, per month, on their cellphone bill.

If you could post what provider you are with, and what services you are getting for the price, it may help other users narrow down which carriers are best in certain areas.

My current plan with Bell Canada has me spending $30 a month after taxes, and I get 500 text messages, unlimited local calling, and 100 long distance minutes. Pretty shitty.

What are you guys working with?

Additional question: how much data do you guys find you burn through in a month?

I know I won't be streaming videos on youtube or anything like that, so do you think 500MB is enough?

I burn through about 2 gigs just messing around on my phone a month. Other than that that's about all i use. I know when i get a 4g phone that will dramatically increase probably.
I only use around 7 minutes a month because everyone i talk to either has verizon or i talk to on weekends which are free.

I practically used my phone as a regular desktop for web browsing when I had my co-op term from January to April last year (my cubicle didn't have internet access). I think the most I used in a month was 430ish MB.

For me, without video streaming, 3GB/month. My wife, 2GB/month mostly from facebook. My son, who only has the phone on the weekends, with no netflix access, 500MB/month. It would be huge if he had it all week.

I have a feeling I won't use data all that often, seeing as I'm often in a wifi spot or not in a situation in which browsing the internet on my phone would be an option.

I just hope I'm not one of those people who becomes addicted to it once I have it and goes overboard.

I plan on prodding Bell for free upgrades and better prices, having been a customer for 4 years now. If they won't give me any deals, I'll threaten to switch to Rogers. Looks like the plan you've drawn my attention to is now a leading contender.

I hope they think you're "worth more" than my friend. He called to tell them he was switching providers after having been with (Bell) for 10+ years unless they could offer him a better deal on his services. The best deal they offered him was $10 off his monthly bill for the next 3 months. Needless to say he did switch providers.

New plan I'm switching to is $69 a month. Gets me $550 worth of calls, unlimited texts, 2GB data and repayments for a phone (most likely a Galaxy S3 when it launches).

There are better value for money plans out there, but this is with the only company that gets decent reception where I live.

I had no idea so many people shelled out more than $70 a month on phone bills.

I really need to reconsider what I'm willing to spend, given what I think I need. I do recognize the plans and prices being posted here are international, but I think they're at least somewhat comparable to what I will get here.

I'd go for a student plan Pochsy, thats what I had before my dad put me under his company's bill. And with campus wide wifi you wont need more than 500MB, I dont think I ever broke that with my BB.

Now I have an Android under a corporate plan so I use a lot more data (streaming music and tethering laptop all the time) but I have unlimited everything so its no big deal. I think he pays around 60/mo for my phone, but its under one big bill so I have no idea exactly

You don't have Skype on your phone...?

I pay €29 for 1GB of Internet, 1000 SMS, 1000 minutes and another 1000 minutes internal to my network when my first 1000 run out. Never hit the 1GB mark or the 1000 SMS mark and only every now and again go one or two minutes (I'm serious) over the 1000 minute mark.
