32GB DDR3 LRDIMMs in 1.5 TB System

I work for AMD. I stress platforms (as virtual machines) and network devices with a suite of stress tests to make sure the latest products are compatible with vendor software.
I get to play with allot of crazy hardware. Lately we've been testing 32GB DDR3 LRDIMM modules.

Here are some pictures (code-names and vendor names removed for obvious reasons):

32GB LRDIMM:

aye, my thumbdrive is bigger than my original hard drive. and, it had 256k simms . . .

duk0r, are the virtual machines totally memory dependent, or do you get some kick from the cpu too?

Typically you will run out of RAM on a VM before anything else. CPUs can be shared pretty easily and are FAST. However you can't really share memory and its still kinda slow. So if you have a VM with 20 guests and each OS at minimum consumes 1GB of RAM- then that's 20GB lost to your operating systems alone in the VM. This is not including any extra RAM to process applications. A system that can handle allot of RAM is very handy in the VM world.
