pretty sure FEOS was being sarcastic...

there's nothing to agree or disagree with in there. the article is total non-sense. right after finishing the paragraph about christians not following their own teachings and him being sorry about that, the guy shot himself right in the foot by admitting that chistianity should be spread through fascination. not through reason, research and conviction - but through circus tricks and populism. no, thanks.Adams_BJ wrote:

Yeah I started to see the direction he was going was becoming garbled so I bailed once he started talking about stories from the bible.
Then what did this mean?Jaekus wrote:

I agree with the part up to "Now for the good news." From there my eyes started to glaze over

I was tired dude, I've had fuck all sleep this week. Is it your aim in this thread to pick apart my posts?
Not at all. I was simply explaining why I made the statement I did. If that's not what you meant, so be it.Jaekus wrote:

FWIW, I wasn't picking anything apart. It was the entirety of the comment, not select pieces.

There was no mass killing if infants in Israel. Seriously it never happened. The bible is the only source of the story all other historians and chroniclers from the period and after make no mention of any such thing happening. It is this Jesus who was born in a stank manger in the middle of a genocide.
So you disagreeShahter wrote:

sane people do not agree or disagree with non-sense - they disregard it. when somebody tries to rationalize an idea and then promptly proceeds by appealing to emotions, i, personally, ignore that person.Adams_BJ wrote:

Of course I have to nitpick like that, it's the whole point. The whole counter-argument.-Sh1fty- wrote:

Anyways, I'd love to discuss this but I would hate to drive this thread into a religious debate as I have with so many others.
We have a bunch of accounts, records, biographies, etc. from the period. I actually have a copy of Plutarch's Lives volume 2. It's 700 pages of biography. That just the second volume of one of his surviving works. Something like a mass slaughter of infants would be chronicled.War Man wrote:

Stories, parables and a hodge-podge of lineage.

A quote:
"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again; that some thinking, feeling remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is anything more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence. Far better it seems to me is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides."
- Carl Sagan.

true. it's easy to pronounce self-righteous judgements and hard to stand by them, when they are taken apart logically and leave you with a hollow arguement about the way you "feel" about your point.War Man wrote:
