No save function makes you want to kill someone after a crash though

Cthulhu Saves the World is good. Laughable that they call Breath of Death VII a bonus since it comes with Cthulhu. I wish they would do everyone a favor and steal Humble Bundles formula.

indie games annoy me. why is everyone trying so hard to like them now? why are they all of a sudden 'cool' when 5 years ago they were laughable? cause they're still laughable. i'm sorry but wtf it's 2011 and the two biggest games are a side-scrolling lego game and a 3d lego game. wtf is this shit.

Eufloria was nice for awhile, but not as interesting as Cthulhu Saves the World.

the only indie games i've enjoyed have been novelty puzzle ones that last me like a week. i think the major success of indie games in recent years is down to the fact that big-money studio games have been sucking huge cojones. what a sad, sorry state of affairs when we reach 2011 and most of the pc gaming world are playing 3d lego block simulators and side-scrolling games.

Another reason is because some of the "indie games" out there are made by developers who aren't bound by a publisher's restraints, deadlines and expectations.

this isn't a reason, this is the sole reason. Its why some indie games are fun, because they can do as they wish without having to bow to a publishers pressure.

Not always. Some of them are in it solely to capitalize off of whatever they can get out of their half-hearted product, hoping that it'll somehow catch on and make viral bucks. I don't have a problem with the profit motive so long as it doesn't hurt the game.

Anyway, I wouldn't call the state of affairs too sorry. Every time an indie with simple graphics makes such a big splash, it affirms creativity/gameplay over graphics/cloning.

Which leads to the point of the pricing: Indie games are fucking cheap.
You can get multiple for the price of a so-called "triple-A", $60 release. If an indie game is crap, you don't lose much.

Also, most indie devs still have demo versions to play beforehand, while the major game publishers have turned demos into "beta tests", that you are only eligible if you've pre-ordered or purchased another of their crappy games.

Besides, this drastic increase of indie game purchases in recent times is solely because of Humble Bundle (and Indie Royale now) for me.
Those prices are a steal.

the only indie games I've enjoyed are the puzzle ones (especially quantz).  I'd much rather pay $50 for one polished game than $5/each for 10 indie games

The problem is, you won't find polished games anymore.
That is, polished in the sense of a good game through and through. The graphics are very nice though.

Alot of old games were very polished even at v1.0

These days it takes a few patches to remove obvious flaws and game breaking stuff

Whether that comes from laziness, more complicated development or just cutting costs on testing idk. Probably the latter...

skyrim, polished? mine kept crashing whenever i tried to return some quests in the very first instanced-city. also the interface sucks balls and the texture work could have been done by a 6 year old with a crayon set. polished? ok. i guess you rpg geeks are into games that crash every 15 minutes, or else you enjoy using the console all the time to circumvent game-breaking flaws.

i literally went around and did my first ever round of misc side-quests in that game, really wanted to like it, then when i went to take them all back and return them at that first place (with the werewolf guys), it would crash to desktop whilst loading the main gates, everytime. piece of shit.

i also had to basically disable my sound-cards high quality audio, too, or the game's sound was totally fucked. it would only play all the sound in the game clearly if i forced my audio hardware to its lowest possible settings. some 'polished' game that is.
