hope all your extended circle stay safe and well, KJ. i heard a bunch of insurance companies basically cancelled fire coverage on the west coast in the last few years. i can't think of a better suggestion to move, and move fast, than losing your insurance coverage when living in wildfire country.
scariest weather pattern i've experienced yet was this last autumn in the south of taiwan. the typhoon season lasted unseasonably long, well into late november, and included a few monster storms – afaik some of the biggest cyclones globally all year. kaohsiung, where i was staying, had its first direct hit in something like 40 years, a freak storm that hooked up and around northeast to the plains, and skipped the usual storm-buffeting coastal mountains. it came ashore about 0.5km from where i was staying. that was a hairy 24 hours. no fatalities, but the city was totalled. pretty much all the vegetation was gone overnight, and the beaches looked like trash dumps. the main port of the city had cargo containers thrown everywhere like lego bricks. i have some pretty insane videos on my phone somewhere.

Deleting old photos for space always ends in minor space gains cause lightroom has to build previews of all the other old photos that i decided to keep

I bought a new ipad.
The old one was pretty solid and had great battery life - but couldn't really open any websites and couldn't clear its own memory. I reset it and installed the only app for cats which would run on it.
The new one feels like my finger could poke through it - completely useless for hitting a burglar.
Somehow its decided my phone and ipad should sync themselves, so now I've got some hybrid fuck knows what mix-up of settings, bookmarks etc.
I think I'm supposed to log in to icloud or something to unfuck this but its sort of working so I'll leave it.

jesus christ, how old are you again? apple devices are literally the easiest devices to setup in the world. you turn them on and sign in to your apple account and everything is good to go. doesn't matter whether you buy an apple watch or a $5000 mac pro, the setup process is exactly the same and migrates everything over.
apple devices also have a chip that stores all of your data and passwords locally. if it sync'd with your existing apps, that's because it has already passed through the onboard security chip, which typically uses your fingerprint or face-scan or some other form of highly robust biometric security.
all meta services like facebook, instagram, whatsapp, etc. have their own security systems that will flag you whenever a new device ID tries to log on, or whenever somebody from a new IP location accesses your account. that has nada to do with apple. frankly perfectly good features, considering the interest that people have in hacking highly private social media accounts? what exactly is your problem here, lmao, you old crank.

your bookmarks, reading list, open tabs, etc. are associated with your icloud account/email. it's extremely convenient. you can resume reading something on your computer which you had originally opened or consulted on your phone. it's a seamless, continguous experience. this is Good.
for whatever reason you've had multiple apple devices and not connected one to the internet, or kept it logged out of your icloud account, or whatever. if you want to keep your private device in a faraday cage for Reasons (i don't even want to know, pedo roy) then don't blame apple.
