Is it the IR scope that's letting me see enemy lifebars?
I picked up a gun today that didn't have an IR scope. It was horrible, there was dust and bits of paper and lights blinding me everywhere and I died

Armor zoom seems shitty to me, it replaces fucking thermal optics which are awesome as shit and also there are rarely times you need the zoom from my experience. In tanks especially, you have to recalculate the shell drop as well rather than having a good idea of where to shoot.Roc18 wrote:

Zoom + the LMG is amazing killing infantry at longer ranges with the LMG is useful. When I use thermal I'm not as accurate with my LMG or Cannon. I'm skilled at hitting armor at long range with the cannon as well.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

Yeh, thermal can get in the way sometimes. I can see how zoom is useful in some circumstances, still take thermal over it though - forgot about how thermal lights up mines in bright white, that has saved me a lot. Still all preference rather than 100% better one way or the other which is good. Nothing like IRNV versus normals scopes lol.

No it wouldn't. Anything 'good' shouldn't need unlocking or be the very first things you get. The trivial things is what you should get last. This is an FPS correct not and RPG? So your chance to win should be based on skill not how you've outfitted your character, correct? Unlocks and perks which 'upgrade' your character ruins FPS.jmsprovan wrote:

Why would I ever choose a recon kit, when I don't even start with a scoped gun? That kit will sit at 0 points til I'm done playing this game. (For numerous reasons...)
And the M16A3 and M4 are complete shit compared to the next guns in line for assault/engy. (The Ruskie counterparts seem a little better at least...)
Same with RPK and M127.
One thing I actually liked about the beta was that the starting guns seemed more viable. So if you didn't necessarily care to use what new guns you unlocked, you could continue to unlock accessories for those base weapons. They're so shitty now that you're forced to start that process on the 2nd-tier weapons instead (or just keep unlocking new guns that you won't have accessories for.)
I'm all for unlockable content, but as said, it should not be stuff that makes a dramatic impact on your ability to get kills.
Vehicles should have all of their machineguns, rockets, etc. from the get-go. Kits should have all of their basic functionality (shock paddles for medic/assault, etc.)
Maybe make unlocks increase damage/range/etc., or add weapons and items that don't provide a substantial advantage (e.g. they are simply different, with a unique "feel" to them...), but don't completely gut every aspect of the game in the name of making more unlockable content.
they are, though, at least until you've bothered to get rage'd for about 3k points at which point you get a few decent unlocks. you can't do many successful fly-bys and live to tell the tale without your basic flares or extinguisher, there's just too much bullshit. planes are drastically gimped in this game considering how many things can shoot them down, and with how much ease.Sturgeon wrote:

Yeah, finallly tried the IRNV last night. Insane. Forget flanking with that thing. Just a pixel of yellow is all you need to know something is coming.

I rarely get shot down nowadays with a good combo of unlocks, but starting out in a bare-basic jet is fucking hard. Especially now as the game's a bit older, as everyone has access to more shit.
Only thing I feel needs changing is AA armour (lower) and/or the guided missile damage to be higher, or repair times lowered.
That and a longer range for the SOFLAM.
