Nah, I've seen the older guys do modeling though, looks...annoying, but they'll agree with my statement.

Not to mention, you don't need to be too bright to figure out that modeling a bolt-release and possibly an ROF selector, which are both static items in games, would require more effort than a port cover flapping as you walk, ejection port, shells coming out, smoke coming out, etc.

It takes less effort to model it correctly than to just guess where stuff is and try to model it. Having a model to go by is easier.
shifty. Honestly what the fuck would you know.
Cause I studied computer science for a year that's how I would know. Now please be quite.

Now look guys, you're all making a huge deal out of my opinion. I know EA could model the gun properly for less work than to go out of their way to make a shiny ejection port on the left side with cartridges flying out and the bolt going back-n-forth.

I'm asking for them to do a good job, and you guys are complaining about this. Sure, it's not the most important aspect of the game, but if done properly with less effort from the start, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Now, EA did it right, we can all stfu and a mod can close this thread.
I work in the games industry and have obviously been heavily in the mod scene for years. I have done a computer science degree and seriously what the fuck does that have to do with 3d modelling. Very little. You have absolutely no idea of the memory/GPU overheads involved in creating a game and ensuring optimization.

Now I ask you again. What the fuck would you know.

Jesus Christ... The guys at DICE are some of the best modelers Ive seen in this industry and that fact that you don't think they use references is laughable.

Vilham what is your problem? With all of your experience you could either agree with me or tell me I'm wrong. Don't go around being a douche. What have I done to you? fking relax

Now, I don't need 3 Ph.Ds in rocket science to know it takes LESS work to model a static bold release and a little bump for whatever that component is then to model an ejection port cover that moves, a forward assist, a magazine release button, and casing flying in front of you.

Where is your logic? How can it possibly not take more effort to put all that junk on your screen, than a nearly flat surface with a freaking bolt release?

Shifty, 3D modeling takes allot of work to make it look right. Modelers often will take any shortcut to make the model look good, and if that means straying for perfect realism then it's okay, because they know that only serious tools will give a shit. I don't know why the ejection ports were on the wrong side of some of the BC2 weapons, but it's obvious that DICE had some reason for doing it. But the point of this thread is that in BF3 all the ejection ports are on their correct side, so why are you still rambling?

DS, have you read the previous 5, 6 or so posts?

I know they're on the appropriate side, but some folks seem to have a problem with me wanting it on the right side. So I explain to them why it's silly to incorrectly model it, and that in takes more effort. I'm simply stating my opinion, one backed by some good ol' logic, unfortunately some people have personal issues which require everybody else to agree with them or they start being tards.

I'm on no way in the wrong here. If you want to whine, ask Vilham why he's continuing this.

I appreciate it when the weapons look like they should. I think it's retarded when they don't, but I don't die over it.

k shifty, I'm really fuckin bored today so I'm going to spell it out to you why ejection ports are on the wrong fucking side

Modelers have reference guns...

for fuck's sake.

Fact is brass spitting out into your face just looks fuckin cool (or at least they think so)

also you usually will be able to see more shit going on that looks cool, such as the bolt cycling back and forth INSIDE the ejection port if it's on the left side. This allows the modelers/animators to show off their hard work.

It's been /thread a long damn time ago. In fact the OP should have just been a comment in the official bf3 thread.

I know they like to do that crap for that reason. I just think it's retarded.

A valid argument as you put it, is entirely subjective to your opinion. The statements I made earlier are a valid argument in my opinion.

I could go further with your reasoning. Why do they even bother modeling real weapons? They should add two ejection ports, and two big magazines, with cool lasers, grenade launchers, and all kinds of other fancy gadgets that would show off their modelers' skills as you put it earlier.

because they want to conform to a specific style, one of realism but not entirely.

you only have 1 argument, I have 2

By modeling it authentically they are showing their attention to detail and determination to make things right by doing their homework.

I have to admit that when I'm firing my weapon I don't really care too much about the casing...you know, cause I'm busy kicking butt, but still think it's disappointing.

I tell myself it's a left-handed version of the M16 so that I can sleep at night.
